Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Kelsie Johnson. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Kelsie, appreciate you joining us today. Can you open up about a risk you’ve taken – what it was like taking that risk, why you took the risk and how it turned out?
When I was pregnant with my youngest child in 2021, I was faced with the tough decision of either going back to my full time job, or taking the plunge in going full time in my business. This is something I’ve always dreamed of doing, but was fearful of. Scared I wouldn’t be able to provide for my family, scared of failure if it didn’t work out. After he was born I knew I didn’t want to leave him to go back to work so I took the risk! With the support of my husband, I quit my job and decided to go full time with my photography business! The first few months were a little scary. I have so many wonderful clients who have stood by me over the years. They began with me years ago when I first started out and still stick with me regularly now! This year has been such a huge impact on my business in such a positive way. This was the first year I have been fully booked all year and I’m so proud of how far I’ve come! If it wasn’t for the support of my husband and all of the wonderful families who trust me to capture their memories I wouldn’t have been able to be as successful as I have been this year! Going full time was a huge and terrifying risk, but one of the best I’ve made!

Kelsie, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My name is Kelsie Johnson. I’m married to a man I’ve been with since I was only 15 years old. Together we have two wonderful children. Savvy, who is 9 and Ryder, who just turned 2.
I’ve always had a passion for photography. That passion grew so much after my daughter was born. When she was two my husband bought my first DSLR camera for me and I started my business shortly after in 2017!
I’ve put so many hours investing in my self and my business. I’ve put so much education into it to make it successful and get to where I’d like to be.
I went full time in 2021 after my son was born.
I absolutely love photographing weddings! I also photograph a ton of families, maternity, and cake smash!
I hope to venture into newborn photography next year and reopen a studio!

How did you build your audience on social media?
I’ve build most of my social media audience by work of mouth and drawings! I do a lot of give aways which being a lot of attention and new faces to my pages!
I also have some amazing clients who are constantly sharing my information with others to get my name out there.
This year I actually placed in the best of hernando contest!

Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
My family is what really drives my goals to be successful. Everything I do I do to be able to go the extra mile for my kids! To be able to give them the ability to do sports they love or go out and do fun things as a family!
