We recently connected with Kelsie Daily and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Kelsie, thanks for joining us today. Earning a full time living from one’s creative career can be incredibly difficult. Have you been able to do so and if so, can you share some of the key parts of your journey and any important advice or lessons that might help creatives who haven’t been able to yet?
I knew the hair industry was my calling but I had to figure out how to afford living in LA so I could work at a luxury salon full-time at the age of 21. I found Luxelab Salon where I interviewed and started working at the next day. I worked extremely hard and inserted myself into any projects or assisting that I could.
I’m now a stylist behind the chair, free lance editorial stylist, educator for Luxelab Salon, educator for Hairtalk Extensions and ambassador for Oribe. I’ve had to find balance in juggling all of my roles but I truly enjoy all of the brands and jobs I’m apart of.
At the beginning of my career, saying “yes” to every opportunity that came up is how I was able to create a full-time career that I love so much! Now that I’m well into my career, I also think it’s very important now to say “no” to the things that don’t align exactly with what I enjoy doing.
The journey with my career thus far has been nothing short of inspiring and amazing!
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
My name is Kelsie Daily and I’m a licensed hairstylist with a passion for creating beautifully articulated hairstyles. With 10 years of experience in the industry, I have honed my skills and developed a keen eye for detail.
I moved from Northern California to Los Angeles at the age of 21 to seek out my dreams of being a successful stylist at a luxury salon while also styling hair for editorials, music videos, projects etc. I wanted to have as much opportunity surrounding me as possible.
I believe that a great hairstyle can transform not only someone’s appearance but also their confidence and self-esteem. My goal as a hairstylist is to listen carefully to my clients’ desires and concerns, and then work together to achieve their dream look wether that be behind the chair or on set!
At the end of the day, I look at my career as providing my clients with the specific feeling they are looking for. That could consist of wanting to feel sexy, younger, lighter energy, happier, more mature etc.
I’m now a stylist behind the chair and educator at Luxelab Salon, Educator for Hairtalk Extensions and Oribe ambassador. I’ve had to find balance in juggling all my roles but I truly love each one.
Looking back, are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
I really wish I knew being an apprentice through a salon education program was an option! It allows you to start your career in an actual salon a lot sooner vs. going to school, obtaining your license and then starting at a salon. The cost is also substantially lower when you start off this way.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The most rewarding part of my career is providing someone with more confidence and leaving them feeling better when they leave than they did coming in. I strive to provide a solution to whatever they aren’t happy with when it comes to their hair.
