Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Kelsey Sorenson. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Kelsey, thanks for joining us today. So, let’s start with a hypothetical – what would you change about the educational system?
Let’s face it – there’s a real shortage of teachers out there. It’s heartbreaking to see educators leaving their passion in droves.
Now, I’m not claiming to have all the answers, but one thing is clear: teachers are feeling burnt out like never before. Just listen to what some of our community’s incredible teachers have to say when I asked if they love teaching:
“It’s become a stress-inducing entity that little resembles the reason I got into education.”
“Am I actually teaching? Or am I working on the 48 IEPs on my caseload? And if I am teaching which of my 6 grades is it?”
“I love teaching, I don’t love the idea that some day I may have to choose between protecting my students or making it home to my own children alive.”
“Not really. Between behaviors and the work load, it’s really stressful.”
“Unfortunately not so much! I love my students but hate everything else that goes along with it.”
If we truly want to give our education system the upgrade it deserves, it starts with backing those warriors on the frontlines: our amazing teachers.
Think about it. Our teachers are the unsung heroes who… (you know, all the magic they work day in and day out).
But, here’s the kicker – as those quotes reveal, so many of them feel like they’re wandering without a map, with little recognition.
Now, let’s dream big for a moment. Imagine if teachers got the salaries they genuinely deserve and a budget that makes sure their classrooms are stocked up. It’s crazy that they’re shelling out their own cash for basics like markers and pencils for their students.
But honestly, even more vital than that, is ensuring every teacher gets a holistic support system that prepares them for whatever hurdles come their way.
When teachers get to truly thrive – in and out of the classroom – it creates a ripple effect. Their positivity touches their students, their own kids, and everyone they encounter. And when they grasp the life-changing concepts I share as a life coach, they can pass these on to their students.
Think about a world where students grasp how thoughts shape feelings and learn to process emotions rather than push them away. These are skills I’ve been discovering in my journey as an adult, and it’s music to my ears when my clients say the same.
This is why I’m adamant that EVERY TEACHER should have access to these tools. And that’s the heartbeat of Wife Teacher Mommy – to get the world one step closer to that reality.
We’re making life coaching a reality for teachers, without the sky-high costs. Yeah, it usually costs a pretty penny to work with a life coach, but we’re flipping the script. Tailored to teachers (and homeschool parents), our plans start as low as $37/month.
Now, picture this: Imagine having a dedicated ally who understands the unique challenges teachers face. Someone who guides you in conquering burnout, fostering work-life balance, and mastering the art of self-care. That’s the power of coaching. It’s not just advice; it’s personalized support that empowers you to thrive, and a community of educators who are cheering each other on.
We believe teachers deserve all of this… no matter where they teach. Remember, the legacy teachers leave is imprinted on everything. It’s what shapes futures. So, let’s never forget our incredible teachers.

Former teacher, homeschooling mom of three, Founder of Wife Teacher Mommy, and Certified Life Coach from The Life Coach School. I’m the driving force behind a mission that’s helped hundreds of thousands of educators revolutionize their planning efficiency and strike the delicate balance between their various roles. At Wife Teacher Mommy, we’re not just about resources – we’re about transforming lives.
From innovative time-saving materials and insightful blogs to the empowering Wife Teacher Mommy Club, rejuvenating Educate & Rejuvenate events, and the inspiring Wife Teacher Mommy: The Podcast, my team and I have forged a path that’s been recognized by esteemed platforms such as We Are Teachers, Teachers Pay Teachers, Jane, Etsy, Food Network, CBC, Fox, and NBC.
I’m not your average coach…. I’m a coach who “gets it” when it comes to the busy teacher mom life. My journey started in 2014 when I became a part-time substitute teacher after my first baby. It didn’t take long for me to recognize the pressing need for quality sub plans and resources that didn’t gobble up precious planning hours.
So, during those baby-nap breaks, I dove into creating time-efficient resources with one aim: to make your life easier and help you regain time for the things you hold dear. The demand grew, and so did Wife Teacher Mommy, evolving into a hub for ready-to-go sub plans and resources that teachers could rely on.
But, life has its twists, and the pandemic exposed a deeper need. The Wife Teacher Mommy Club, which we launched, made it evident that educators required more than just lesson plans – they needed holistic support. That’s also around the same time that my life was changed when I started working with a coach myself.
My journey into coaching was triggered by a panic attack I mistook for a heart attack, a mere five days after my third child’s birth. It was a wake-up call, a sign that the stress of juggling a bustling life had taken its toll. Through coaching, I was able to:
Receive tailored guidance when I needed it most
Uncover unexplored facets of myself and grow in ways I’d never imagined
Transform into a woman radiating confidence
Witness the transformative power of coaching in others’ lives
Forge deep bonds, connect, and uplift others seeking to uplevel their existence
For me, coaching wasn’t just a change; it was a revelation, a testament to divine intervention and destiny aligning. Now, I support educators weekly through group coaching within the Wife Teacher Mommy Club, a podcast that’s a sanctuary of wisdom (Wife Teacher Mommy: The Podcast), and even a physical teacher planner designed to set your goals and intentions for the year while celebrating your victories week after week.

Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
Our first pivot was when the pandemic hit. At that time, our bread and butter was our Ready To Go Sub Plans. However, overnight when schools closed- nobody needed those anymore! We had to quickly pivot. We made home learning packets and that is when our community of homeschool parents also joined Wife Teacher Mommy (and the teachers loved the packets to send home, too!) We also worked on digitizing many of our teaching resources.
We are now in our second big pivot to making life coaching and events our main focus (and resources as an incredible bonus!) We still offer resources for teachers, but I truly believe that more holistic support is necessary.
At Wife Teacher Mommy, we’re all about giving educators and homeschool parents the power they deserve – not just to tackle the day, but to thrive in every aspect of their lives. Our treasure trove of resources doesn’t just save time; it’s a roadmap to chart a course for a life that’s lived intentionally. While resources are how we started, coaching, real-time events, and community is the direction of our company today.
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
I had to unlearn saying things like “I am an anxious person”. I have learned that that is just a thought. I might feel anxious sometimes, but that doesn’t define me.
That is just one example. I have learned that a lot of things that I thought were true were merely thoughts in my head.
It’s eye-opening and powerful to take back this ownership of our lives. I hope to help you (whoever is reading this!) to do the same.
