We recently connected with Kelsey Sledd and have shared our conversation below.
Kelsey, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Parents can play a significant role in affecting how our lives and careers turn out – and so we think it’s important to look back and have conversations about what our parents did that affected us positive (or negatively) so that we can learn from the billions of experiences in each generation. What’s something you feel your parents did right that impacted you positively.
I come from a wonderfully blended family. My parents divorced when I was young, and I grew up surrounded by a mix of siblings—half-siblings and adopted siblings alike. They raised me to be independent and self-sufficient, values that shaped the foundation of my business.
I have endless gratitude for my parents and the lessons they taught me. Two of the most impactful philosophies they instilled in me were to treat everyone with kindness and respect, and to create as many meaningful memories as possible while you can. These principles are deeply intertwined into the heart of my business.
When clients book with me, I take pride in transforming what can often feel like a vulnerable experience into a comfortable, welcoming environment where we capture the special moments that matter most.
Kelsey, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I found my passion for photography for many reasons. Losing loved ones taught me the value of preserving moments, and my love for reminiscing and cherishing life’s milestones naturally drew me to the art of capturing memories. I’ve always been the unofficial family photographer, and when people outside of my family began reaching out, I knew it was time to turn my passion into a business.
My journey began as a freshman in high school, and since then, I’ve dedicated countless hours to learning and refining my craft. While I love the photos themselves, the relationships I build with my clients are what truly fuel my passion.
It brings me so much joy to provide memories that will last a lifetime, not only for my family but also for my clients. Whether it’s senior portraits or a wedding, I pour my heart into every aspect—planning, preparing, and delivering sessions that celebrate life’s most meaningful moments.
I am a planner at heart and my business provides clear communication and collaboration to provide a positive experience and result.
Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
Being genuine, transparent and willing to collaborate with clients to work around the challenges life may throw our way.
How do you keep in touch with clients and foster brand loyalty?
I am very interactive with my clients through social media and checking in with eachother every so often for life updates! I often find myself shooting an engagement session with a couple then a few years later, capture newborn portraits for their new additions!
