We recently connected with Kelsey Moffa and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Kelsey thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. So, naming is such a challenge. How did you come up with the name of your brand?
I’ve always been very passionate about social media and food and one night, I thought, I should start sharing my food pictures on my social media page! I originally created kookingbutwitha_k to showcase creating and trying new recipes – hence the name, kookingbutwitha_k, to pay homage to my name, Kelsey. After some trials and errors and a long break, I decided to start sharing the food that was passionate to me – showcasing local restaurants, posting the delicious meals we make at home and my favorite eats from Disney World. It’s been incredible to see how far I’ve come since the beginning and I can’t wait to continue to grow.

Kelsey, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I got into this industry because I’ve always been very passionate about food. Most jobs I have had have been in the food service industry and I even majored in hospitality management in college. I love being able to bring attention to small mom and pop shops, while also letting people know that a chain restaurant isn’t so bad every now and then. One thing that keeps me honest to my craft is that I am not going to post glowing reviews of every restaurant. While I’ll be honest about my own personal experience, I will still highlight the highlights that the restaurant has to offer.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The most rewarding part of what I do is being able to do what I love. People thing that social media is such an easy career but it does take time to edit videos, photos, create captions, research up and coming restaurants and any trends that may be going on in the food world. So while some days I absolutely LOATHE getting on Instagram, I’m always so thankful for the community that I built allowing me to share.

Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
One tip I have for growing on social media is engage, engage, engage. Not every post is going to be a home-run and it takes a while to learn that. A post one day may do so well and the next day be a complete flop. I always make sure to tag as many of the products as I can in a photo. If I am posting a photo of a homemade burger, I’m tagging the company that made the bun, the side dish, the plates, the condiments. I also found the use of hashtags to be incredible. I hashtag every possible thing that I can and then after posting, I click some of those hashtags and engage on others post. The foodie community on Instagram is sooooo supportive and I am so happy to be a part of it.
