Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Kelsey Le. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Kelsey, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Let’s kick things off with your mission – what is it and what’s the story behind why it’s your mission?
I picked up my first camera about 15 years ago. I started by taking pictures for family and friends and upgraded my gear as I progressed. When I went to my first drift event in 2020, it was the first time I was able to combine my passion for photography and cars. It’s an adrenaline rush getting very close to cars flying by at 50mph or higher but that’s where the best looking photos and videos come from! I love tracking the cars with my lens to attain that crisp shot of the car with the motion-blurred background.
Kelsey, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My name is Kelsey Le and I am a photographer based in Houston, TX. I love to photograph family and friends but specialize in all things automotive. I’ve been shooting drift events for about 3 years and flying FPV drones for about 1 year.
How did you put together the initial capital you needed to start your business?
Photography equipment is very expensive. The strategy for me was to save up and buy one great body and lens and add to it as I progressed. My family supports me greatly and helps me as well. A huge shout out to my mom for all of the photography gear she has given me. I would not be where I am without her help and support! Every event finances upgrading lenses and camera bodies so the key is to work hard, save up, and upgrade when you’re ready.
We’d love to hear about you met your business partner.
I am very fortunate to say that my husband is my business partner. We got married in 2015 and started our business a few years ago. I go help him with his FPV drone gigs and he helps me with my gigs. My favorite type of event is a drift event where I am taking photos on track and my husband is chasing the same cars with his drone. He occasionally pauses from chasing cars and flies around me so he can check on me and I can wave at him. I love getting a photo with the car and his drone in the same shot. It makes it very special to be able to share our hobbies together at the same event. I’m able to teach him about photography and he teaches me about drones. We get awesome POV videos of what it is like shooting on the ground and videos from above via drone of me in action, getting the shots. He is a great business partner!
