Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Kelsey Ent. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Kelsey, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Do you take vacations? Why or why not?
I absolutely take vacations! I think taking a break from your work is absolutely beneficial to being a good business owner.
When it comes to owning your own business, you are constantly on the go. Whether it’s phone calls, emails or appointments, you barely have time to yourself. But at the end of the day, if you’re not at your best, your company isn’t at it’s best. Making sure you’re getting enough sleep, eating right and having a good work life balance, can help you achieve a healthy life in and outside of work.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Hi there! My name is Kelsey Ent and I’m the owner of Ent’s Events in Charlotte, NC. Though I’m originally from Woodstock, GA and I’ve called Charlotte home for about 5 years now. I’ve been in the wedding industry for 10 years, but only recently started my own business a few years ago.
Growing up, I watched my dad work as an event manager for a popular venue in Alpharetta, GA and even helped out a few times. Then at the end of my senior year of high school, I planned a women’s conference with my church for my schools “Senior Project” and immediately knew that this is what I enjoyed doing.
Over the next few years, I devoted my time to working in different aspects of the wedding planning business, like working in a bridal shop, a bakery and a florist/event coordinator. I finally started my own business 2 years ago and have been loving it!
Do you have any insights you can share related to maintaining high team morale?
After working under a few small business owners, the most important advice I’d give to manage a team is “remember your employees are people too.”
With the hustle and bustle of everyday work, sometimes viewing your employees in anything but an “employee” light, can slip through the cracks. This is when people start to feel underappreciated and overworked. Taking interest in your employees hobbies or remembering aspects of their lives, can help employees feel appreciated which we’ll then help them have more morale and motivation to go to work and excel in something they enjoy doing!
What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
The strategy I like to stick with when growing clientele is keeping in touch with vendors you’ve enjoyed working with before!
Making these vendor connections can help you build a strong team you trust while helping your clients as well. Then when those vendors have someone looking for services that you offer, they’ll recommend you with confidence. That’ll create a chain of happy vendors recommending you and also happy clients recommending you to friends and family!
