Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Kelsey Banfield. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Kelsey , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Coming up with the idea is so exciting, but then comes the hard part – executing. Too often the media ignores the execution part and goes from idea to success, skipping over the nitty, gritty details of executing in the early days. We think that’s a disservice both to the entrepreneurs who built something amazing as well as the public who isn’t getting a realistic picture of what it takes to succeed. So, we’d really appreciate if you could open up about your execution story – how did you go from idea to execution?
Coaching is a large industry and starting a coaching business is not a new idea. However, everyone starts their own business differently and it’s important to acknowledge this. There is a lot of noise out there about how to recruit “ideal clients” and blueprints for launching coaching businesses. Before I launched my own business I studied a lot of what was being instructed and decided that none of the “cut and paste” launch ideas were for me. Instead, I started by teaching. I wrote a thorough workshop approximately 80 minutes in length and invited people to attend for a small fee. At every workshop I taught I’d discuss my services and slowly and surely people started signing up for my 1:1 clients services.
Since this happened several years ago my client has roster has grown and grown. I still teach workshops at local businesses or I organize them myself. I also have launched a newsletter that is sent twice per month and add everyone’s email to my distribution list. This way I’m “in touch” with them long after we’ve met in person.
The biggest lesson in all of this is that I followed my gut instinct in sticking to marketing myself and my business in a way that feels aligned with my mission. There are a lot plans for coaching businesses that exist, not to mention all the complicated sales funnels one can create, but that just isn’t me. My clients are referred to me via word of mouth or find me via social media or a workshop. If I could advise anyone on the best way to launch their coaching business I’d say they need to just be themselves and share their business in the way that feels most authentic to them.
Kelsey , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
After a decade in the marketing, food and television industries, with two best-selling cookbooks and countless television appearances under my belt, it became clear that extending this knowledge to support others was my natural next step. This pivot brought together all of my experiences with complex problem solving, aligned action, self trust, and living authentically into a cohesive whole.
My work centers around the integration of the personal and professional: to help others usher in their own best selves to reach the next level in life and business. Our transformative work often leads to new opportunities and a renewed sense of confidence and ease. My intention is to share simple concepts, in an inviting and practical way, that will help people shape the life they envision. I’ve written a proprietary program I walk my clients throw individually so they understand not only the larger concepts, but also how to apply them to your life effectively.
Nobody is stuck in their current story, if you’re currently convinced you are. Your life can be meaningful and fulfilling; you’re meant to live happily and with ease. It’s my mission to empower everyone with this truth.
Everyone has the ability to step into the life they desire. My coaching program has the tools it takes to help you harness this power, create change, and grow into the life you want on your terms.
Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
I share my knowledge freely. If you read my Substack newsletter or glance at my Instagram account you’ll see that I’m always sharing tips and tricks for life management. I don’t believe in teasing information and then forcing people pay for more. If you are ready for individual coaching you’ll know it and then we can work together on a deeper level. If all you need is to read the newsletter and social media captions, that’s fine.
Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
My clients! A happy client always refers another. I really focus on doing my best job for each client. I’m very invested in everyone’s success and I know my clients can sense that. For this reason they are always referring more people to me. I’m very grateful and make sure to thank everyone for each referral.
