We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Kelsey and Nick Melefsky. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Kelsey and Nick below.
Kelsey and Nick, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. How did you learn to do what you do? Knowing what you know now, what could you have done to speed up your learning process? What skills do you think were most essential? What obstacles stood in the way of learning more?
When we first started a podcast, we did not know how much work went into it but the show has been an incredible journey so far! We began by recording a few test episodes to get our bearings around all the equipment and settings. Our show involves a lot of research and prep work but editing was one of our biggest obstacles we faced early on. YouTube videos/tutorials were a godsend to us and helped us get a strong baseline for editing.

Kelsey and Nick, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
We host the Half Baked History podcast, a show where we indulge in some cannabis and then dish about historical people and events. Each episode features a comical conversation with historical stories to keep our listeners entertained and informed. The idea for our show came to fruition during the pandemic when we decided to explore learning about and teaching history in a way different than what we were exposed to in school. Our goal is to make history entertaining, fun, comical all while sticking to the facts.

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
Getting to create something on a regular basis that we can then engage with ourselves is very rewarding. Publishing a single episode of our show has a lot of steps put into it from research and prep to recording and editing. Listening to the final product and getting to interact with our listeners is always such a good payoff.

How did you build your audience on social media?
Our social media platforms are where we are able to interact with our listeners and pick their brains. Being authentic is one of the best ways you will be able to build your social media presence. Find where your fans, listeners, or target audience spend their time online and go there. For us, we use a lot of TikTok and Instagram but we even have a small but tight community on Facebook as well.
