We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Kelly Sturtevant a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Kelly, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today What’s the best or worst investment you’ve made?

The best investment I ever made in my business was hiring a mentor and joining her mentorship program. When I began my business, I knew I needed some help but wasn’t quite sure how to find it. And little did I know a Facebook ad would bring my mentor to me. At the time, I was struggling to invest the fee into a mentor, but I knew this was the fastest way to grow.
So I took a leap of faith and the rest is history.
The amount of knowledge I’ve gotten from surrounding myself with like minded people who are going through the same struggles I’m going through has simply changed the trajectory of my business. When I began I was just hoping to make enough money to help supplement the family income, maybe take a vacation or two, but by investing in myself and in a mentor, I became the sole breadwinner for my family.
Not only did my business grow in revenue, but my confidence, my expertise and my mindset all made massive strides in change.

Kelly, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?

I started my business 5 years ago when I was a stay-at-home mom who decided it was time to get back to work, only I didn’t want to go back to the corporate office job I had prior to kids. The thought of it sucked the life out of me. So I looked for ways I could earn an income at home while still being able to be present in my kid’s lives. I started off as a social media manager, managing client’s social media accounts, but quickly realized this was not what brought me joy and made me like my business. I slowly learned I had a passion for Facebook ads and started transitioning into paid marketing for clients.
What I love most about what I do is helping the small business owners and social media managers learn how to use Facebook ads for themselves or their clients. Teaching has become a huge passion of mine in my business, and helping them get results, even though they often work with smaller ad budgets, are possible.
What I most want people to know, is that learning new skills can be challenging. But if you surround yourself with a community and guidance from those who are further along the journey than you, amazing things can happen.
We were all beginners at one point in all aspects of life, and I love being able to help business owners get a jump start on their beginner level status and set them up for faster success.

How did you build your audience on social media?

As someone who began their business as a social media manager, I understood the importance of building an online presence. So growing my following was almost ingrained in me from the start. But it wasn’t until TikTok became popular during the pandemic that I found a place where I could be authentic and real for my audience. The biggest key to growing on any platform is all about showing up, providing value for your audience and being truly authentic. When I stopped trying to fit the mold of what other people were doing, including my own mentor, and truly showed up as myself, my platforms grew.

Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?

For me, being authentic has been the greatest factor to building my reputation, alongside delivering on the expectations I have with my clients and students. When people see me online, they get the same person in real life. I don’t hide who I am or how big of a potty mouth I have. This has allowed me to attract and repel the right kinds of people and clients to me. My reputation begins and ends with the results I provide. Clients work with me not only because of the results, but because I give them so much more in value and learning and opportunity for them to grow. I over deliver and they appreciate it
