We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Kelly Sollinger a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Kelly, thanks for joining us today. Showing clients you appreciate them is something I think most folks want to do – but it’s not always clear how to do it in a meaningful way. What’s one of the best examples of client appreciation you can share with us?
An elderly gentleman reached out to me about his home in Loganville Georgia that he was in need of selling quickly. The house was chocked full of trash and was a borderline hoarder house. I knew this wouldn’t be your average home to flip and was excited about the challenge but what I was even more excited about was helping this elderly man move to North Carolina so he could have fresh start. The state of the home and what he was living in was no place for anyone and it tugged on my heart strings so much that my team and I ended up getting all the boxes and packing material needed to help him on his journey, found a reputable moving company and ensured that he was taken care of fully. We even went so far as to retrieve medication he had left after moving and overnighted it to him at his new home. We invested more money into the home than we had planned but our greatest investment was ensuring that this sweet elderly man had to do as little as possible to move.
Kelly, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I grew up in a wood shop building with my father and grandfather, from cabinets to furniture. In the early 2000’s I was helping friends out on the side flipping homes and really enjoyed real estate. The whole aspect of designing and building was so amazing to me, watching my drawings come to life. My wife and I would drive all over the state looking at beat up houses salvaging what we could to use on current and future builds we were on. A few years later the real estate bubble burst and just as quickly as I had started it came to a screeching hault. It was at that point that I realized I didn’t want to work for anyone other than myself, so I started Georgia Fair Offer, a real estate investment company.
We focus on helping our communities one door at a time. Helping homeowners out of tough situations is what we do, and we’re really good at it. I’d rather break even and make sure someone is taken care of rather than make a few extra dollars.
Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
Your reputation is everything in this business! Being honest, transparent, and trustworthy go a long way. I’ve got nothing to hide from any of my clients, everything is out in the open. There are too many people out there who would rather take advantage of someone to make a few extra dollars than do the right thing, those people don’t last long in this industry.
We’d love to hear about how you met your business partner.
This is my favorite question. As my business has evolved and my clientele grew so has my business partners. Theres a small network of partners I use to fund and rehab all the homes we do. I get calls daily from people who want to work with me so as my business grows so does my network and the people I partner with all the time.
