The Inception of KMP Nails Salon: A Story of Inspiration and Innovation in the Cosmetology Industry
During my cosmetology school days, I noticed something amiss in the nail care sector that sparked an idea. While discussing nail theory, we encountered salons that did not adhere to proper infection control or sanitation measures for their clients. I had never witnessed a full sanitation process or the use of new and clean implements on every client as a young girl. This realization was a cause for concern, and I knew something had to change. I came up with the idea to focus on nail care, where clients could experience a relaxing atmosphere upon entering the salon. They would be greeted by their name and have to sign in before their service. Before the service, they would have the opportunity to clean their hands and enjoy a complimentary beverage or a snack. Clients would also witness the sanitization of the pedicure bowls and manicure stations. Additionally, they would be informed of the products being used and could purchase them from the retail shelf. Nail care is one of the top self-care services that people need. Our services work from the inside out, producing long-lasting results instead of temporary ones. It’s time to let go of calluses, dry skin, roughness, and other issues that plague our minds and bodies. Our services will bring out the best in you, leaving you feeling refreshed and rejuvenated.
Kelly , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?

We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
Entrepreneurship can feel like a solo expedition, but relying only on yourself can lead to a lonely road of disappointment. Sure, I can be a superstar, but expecting everyone to be a one-person army is bananas! Building a prosperous business takes a village, which means sharing the load to reach our goals. The myth of being a “self-made” hero is just that, a myth! Whether we’re talking about our personal or professional lives, teamwork makes the dream work. Crafting a successful business requires patience, elbow grease, and a crew of reliable allies. It’s time to ditch the cape and embrace vulnerability, knowing that we can all help each other succeed. So, let’s strap in and enjoy the ride to the top, together!
Have you ever had to pivot?
Life is a balancing act, and I had to pivot both my personal and professional life simultaneously. Initially, working under a mentor at a salon, I learned the ins and outs of managing the business by scaling inventory and keeping track of numbers. However, when I moved to a new salon, it wasn’t a smooth transition. My mentor was upset when I left, and we stopped communicating for a while, but eventually, she realized it was part of my growth. Despite the challenges, I persevered and discovered my passion for creative nail art.
Things were going well until an owner accused me of stealing from the business, which was never my intention as I live by my moral values. It led me to leave and work from home for some time. However, I started working with a friend’s new salon that aligned with my values and I was able to be more independent. Eventually, I grew out of her space and found my brick-and-mortar location. Joined a Coaching Salon group to prioritize my mental health and learn self-love.
During this journey, I realized that I had been neglecting my personal life and needed to set boundaries with family members who weren’t treating me with respect. It was a breakthrough moment for me, and I learned the significance of communication and self-care.
As we approach 2023, my focus is on prioritizing self-love, revealing who’s on my team, and loving them all.
