We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Kelly Martinez. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Kelly below.
Kelly, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. How did you come up with the idea for your business?
I have been a practicing permanent makeup artist for a few years, the industry is always evolving and continued education is very important. I had an idea that it would be nice to get a dozen or so master artists together for networking and teaching newer artists the skills they need to master the art of permanent makeup.
I started by reaching out to a few master artists who I personally admire their work. I asked if they would be interested in speaking at a conference in Scottsdale. I heard YES a lot so I started to put together the conference details.
Found a beautiful venue to host the conference and feed us! Worked with a hotel chain to secure rooms for out of town attendees, worked with master speakers to decide presentation topics and times for them to speak. I found a Permanent Makeup Marketing Team to help sell the tickets. Once the conference details were set I had companies reaching out to me to see if they could be a conference sponsor. The first ever Scottsdale Permanent Makeup & Aesthetics conference will take place May 5-7, 2023 and will include 12 master presenters, 10 vendor sponsors and 200 attendees.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
I have a long background in events, for over a decade I worked as an Event Ambassador, Event Coordinator, Banquet Captain and Bartender for large events. I know how the event industry in Scottsdale runs and how to execute and host a successful event. In 2020 when the lockdown happened all events came to a halt and I found myself out of work. Not wanting to spend all of my time at home I decided I wanted to learn a new skill. I really enjoyed the photos of Microblading and lipblushing that would come across my Instagram feed so I decided that I would like to learn how to do that. I found a great school in Chandler that offered a paramedical permanent makeup program, in the program I learned permanent makeup techniques along with paramedical skills like scar coverup, 3D areola and saline tattoo removal. I am proud to be able to learn skills that help people feel better about themselves and their appearance. For the first year after getting certified I worked at a salon suite in Scottsdale, after that I had built up a nice clientele that I moved into my own location in Uptown Phoenix and was recently awarded best in Phoenix for tattoo removal .
I am happy to be bringing this event to Scottsdale where permanent makeup artists & estheticians can network together and build their skills.

Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
Networking is the best strategy for growing clientele. I reached out to businesses that also have clients that could benefit from my services like plastic surgeons, tattoo artists and esthetician’s. I have also built a referral network with Master Permanent Makeup Artists for networking, sharing and learning from each other through email, social media and The Scottsdale Permanent Makeup & Aesthetics Conference.
Any thoughts, advice, or strategies you can share for fostering brand loyalty?
When artists attend The Scottsdale Permanent Makeup & Aesthetics Conference or a client arrives at my salon for a service they will always receive luxury, attention to detail, five star service and accommodations which brings them back again and again.
