Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Kelly Madole. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Kelly, thanks for joining us today. Naming anything – including a business – is so hard. Right? What’s the story behind how you came up with the name of your brand?
When deciding on a name for my company, I wanted a name that would represent me and who I am, where I came from and where I retuned back to, and also incorporated what my business was. I wanted it to be catchy and memorable.
I had a few names and I was not 100 percent in love with them.. My mom said the if I don’t think about it the perfect name will come to you at the right time. Taking my mother’s advise, I tabled the idea and put a halt to the business and waited.
She was right, about a week later, while driving home from work the name “South Shore Scents Co.” came into my mind and it felt perfect to me. I was born and raised on Long Island’s South Shore, the shore has always been a place of comfort, joy, peace and tranquility for me. And that’s exactly what I want my customers to feel when they are burning one of my candles in their home.
Kelly, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I am 46 years old USAF Veteran. Born and raised on Long Island. I always dreamed of owning my own business. I had a few different business ideas, but none of which would come to life. This past Christmas I was given a candle making kit as a gift. I was excited to make my own and try something different and new. I really enjoyed making them, it took my mind off everything else that was going around me. While I was waiting for them to cure, I began reading on line about the oils and the wax I was using from the kit. The more I read, the more interested I became. And decided that I should, take something that I really enjoyed making, and something that let me be creative into a business. I make candles that only use pure soy wax, and pure essential oils. The fragrances that i have chosen for my line, are all clean scents, to give you the relaxed, tranquil, calm atmosphere in your home the same that i feel when i go to the shore. The design of my candles are elegant, simple and clean and can go with any décor. I am most proud that i never gave up on myself or my dream to own a business. I am a one-woman show at South Shore Scents Co., so i handle all aspects myself, and I am proud to have created something from nothing and I am learning new things everyday, ad a business women in this industry.
Any thoughts, advice, or strategies you can share for fostering brand loyalty?
as a new business owner, I find it very important to keep in contact with my customers. I send out emails for special promotions before posting on social media so they can take advantage before the general public. I ask for feed back, so we can improve our product and/or our services. We respond to orders, and inquires quickly. and we strive to provide the best possible customer service.
How did you build your audience on social media?
Building an audience on social media has its challenges.. one reel that come to mind where most of my followers found me is where I introduced myself, and my business. they really like to see your face ad feel a connection with you. yes I am a candle company, but there is a face, person, family and pets behind the brand and business. and they want to see that.
