Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Kelly Kellett. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Kelly, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Can you tell us the backstory behind how you came up with the idea?
As a child, I was fortunate to receive classical training in various art mediums from my grandfather, including charcoal and watercolor. I pursued my passion for art and design, earning a Bachelor of Fine Arts with a Concentration in Graphic Design from Monmouth University. After spending years in the corporate world, I realized my heart longed for something more creative.
It was during my own wedding planning, as well as helping friends and relatives with theirs, that I realized the invaluable role I could play in bringing a couple’s vision to life through paper. From invitations to menus to thank you cards, I found joy in curating beautiful wedding stationery that represented the unique love story of each couple. It was then that I knew I had found my calling in creating paper aspects that added a touch of artistry and elegance to their special day.
Kelly, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I am a wedding stationer. I grew up trained in the fine arts by my grandfather, specifically drawing and painting. I always felt like it was a hobby and didn’t think I could peruse a career in it. When I got to college, I was majoring in Marketing with a minor in Graphic Design. After taking my first graphic design class, I fell in love and reversed my major and minor. After graduating, I got a job in corporate doing graphic design work. When I began planning my wedding in 2019, I knew I wanted to design my own invitations but didn’t know anything about the industry. I did so much research and thought I should do this for others. In 2021, I launched Suite Scape and since then I’ve worked with over 100 couples designing everything from Save the Dates to Day-Of Materials. I am known for my venue illustrations which is a nod to my fine art training from my grandfather years ago. I love that I was able to make a career out of something that was always thought to be a hobby.
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
Instagram is my main form of marketing for my business. I have found the most return on investment. I began by showing my face on social media and leaning into reels. It wasn’t something I saw my competitors doing so I thought it was a good hole in the market to fill.
Since then, I found my clients book me mainly for me. Yes they like my work, but what closes the deal is how they can relate so much to me. Leaning into Personal Branding, specially on social media, has helped this.
Any thoughts, advice, or strategies you can share for fostering brand loyalty?
I keep in touch mainly through social media. It’s amazing seeing their lives unfolded in married life, having kids, starting a family, in their careers, etc.
At their one year anniversary mark, I send them a mounted print of the illustration I did for their wedding invitations, most of the time that is their venue, but sometimes it’s a custom monogram or crest. It’s just a little way to let them know I am still thinking of them!
