Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Kelly Insley. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Kelly thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. What do you think it takes to be successful?
I believe success can look different for every business. What some people would consider a success, others look to upscale their business in a bigger, more profitable way. However, I feel in order to be successful in business, you need to have a strong mission statement, core values, and to not compare your success and worth to others. Being inclusive to all, supporting other businesses in your industry through community relationships and connection, will strengthen your hold in your market. Providing a high quality experience and or product to your clients is also extremely crucial.
Kelly, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I own and started Pressed Fig Paperie in 2014 and I specialize in fine art heirloom wedding stationery and refined and intentional boutique-style branding for creative owned businesses. I provide a high quality experience for my clients that creates a cohesive vision for their wedding day or business.
I’ve always been involved with art since I was a kid and continued in college. After college, I wanted to start my own business because I didn’t feel like I fit the corporate graphic designer norms—I wanted to be involved in weddings and businesses. I pride myself on my client experience, as well as my expertise in fine art and graphic design to upscale and elevate my client’s service needs.
We’d love to hear about you met your business partner.
My co-owner, Buck, is also my husband! We started our business in 2014 when we were dating. We met in college years prior, and decided to freelance and make our business official (and we made it official when he popped the question later that year in 2014!).
Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
Being present on social media helped build my reputation within the wedding and small businesses industries. Working with other wedding vendors through styled shoots and vendor meet-ups has created connections for client referrals, and to help me be seen more on social media. Creating Instagram reels or Tiktoks has also made me more well-known in my industry! My art and design has also built my reputation because I am well-known for creating stationery and brands that are high quality and makes my style recognizable.
