We recently connected with Kelly Good and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Kelly thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. When did you first know you wanted to pursue a creative/artistic path professionally?
I started dance when I was 3 years old and voice shortly there after. My mother actually placed me in dance do to my difficultly learning right from left. I was naturally ambidextrous and would often confuse right from left. I fell in love with dance and singing as it was a way for me to share my emotions through a creative outlet. From that moment on, I dreamed I would grow up to be a performer.

Kelly, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I started dance when I was 3 years old and I fell in love with everything about it. It helped me process the world around me, and gave me a place to put all the emotions, feelings and thoughts I had. And all without having to say a word. It was my everything, all I wanted to do with my days, was to sing and dance. See, I grew up poor. Both my parents worked very hard and I learned from them, from a young age that if I wanted anything in life I would have to go out into the world and get it. That no one was coming to save me or put the work in for me. I learned I had to risk the life I had for the one I wanted, learn to use my talents and work hard towards making them better. So once I started thinking about a career, naturally performing arts was the only thing I could ever think about spending an education on, and a career I see myself being able to excel in and enjoy for the rest of my life! Now, I am proud of the person I am and all I have overcome to get to where I am. I have overcome injures, health setbacks, financial hardships, loss, mental illness, eating disorders and much more. All of these things have helped me to learn and grow into who I am today. Do to all these experiences, I can sympathize with many whom may have struggled on this journey called life, and it has helped me learn how to be there for clients of all ages and backgrounds.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The most rewarding aspect of being an artist is having the ability to express emotions, thoughts, and ideas in ways that can deeply resonate with others. Creating something that can evoke feelings, inspire people, or spark change that gives a sense of connection and purpose. There’s also a fulfilling journey of self-discovery and growth as an artist continues to refine their craft, often learning more about myself more than anything else, along the way. Additionally, seeing the impact of my performance on the audience, their reactions and the joy, is incredibly satisfying.

How can we best help foster a strong, supportive environment for artists and creatives?
I feel society can best support and foster a thriving creative ecosystem by implementing funding and grants that would provide financial support to artists. Whether it though public or private grants, scholarships or artist residencies. This helps artists focus on their craft without the burden of financial instability. We can also provide access to education and invest in young artists encouraging creativity and artistic skills.
