Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Kelly Gold. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Hi Kelly, thanks for joining us today. Did you always know you wanted to pursue a creative or artistic career? When did you first know?
The creation of the persona was like an acting gig I created for myself wrapped up in late teenage rebellion, and a desire I always had to perform sensuality in some way. It all started with walking into my first strip club and asking for an application about 8 years ago. I did not know what I wanted my stripper name to be. But I did remember that ‘Kelly’ was Barbie’s younger sister and that she was discontinued in 2010. And I thought, what if she grew up to become a half naked dominatrix? What if I grew up to be the long-legged, blonde, sexy, educated, fun girl that I never was and that everyone wanted me to be, only to turn it on its head and take the power back?
Making music as my stripper self came much later, brought up as a joke actually. But once in the studio, the songs came easy and my brand developed rapidly. The mission and story were clear, queer, flirty, and thriving. It made my people laugh, and it made me so happy. I thought I might as well not sleep on it.
Deep down, I think Kelly Gold was always a creative and artistic endeavor for me.

 

Kelly, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?

My name is Kelly Gold and I am a pop star! My music is based on my time as a stripper, online content creator, escort, and sugar baby. I am like a Weird Al Yankochick for sex worker rights but also a professional pop tease, if you please. The songs are in your face and probably in your local gay club dj’s playlist.

Some of my stories and songs are featured on A Stripper’s Guide Podcast, YAS A Stripper Podcast, and 22+ Spotify Playlists. My 2020 single debut of ‘Fetish Guys’ and my 2021 debut of ‘Somebody Jumped the Gun’ was just the start. From the strip club to the studio, I have been working on building out 5 albums that I hope will bring me to stadiums around the world!

You can catch me performing for the first time on June 2nd at Third Coast Comedy Club.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?

Being able to amplify the voices of marginalized communities with which you identify. Period. The only reason that I do this work is in the hopes that I can make enough noise, money, hopefully both, to support the sexual outcasts, the sex working world, and their Gaga damn rights.

Are there any books, videos or other content that you feel have meaningfully impacted your thinking?

Absolutely!

I idolize Britney and Disney Channel Stars. I am grateful for artists like Cardi B and Nicki Minaj who have openly talked about their time in the sex industry. I study at the feet of Peaches, Slayyyter, Kim Petras, and all drag performers. I hope to work with Chrissy Chlapecka one day 💘 But when it comes to my brand overall, sex workers have always inspired me. I plan to shape my career as an artist through this inspiration.
