We recently connected with Kelly Garcia and have shared our conversation below.

Kelly, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today We’d love to have you retell us the story behind how you came up with the idea for your business, I think our audience would really enjoy hearing the backstory.

I was pregnant with my daughter and on the hunt for maternity clothes and discovered they had not changed since my first pregnancy with my son five years prior. They were expensive, frumpy and uncomfortable! Worst of all you have to keep buying more and more as you go through the trimesters. I thought, there has to be something better so I designed- The Momper. A waistline free one-piece jumpsuit that grows with you all nine months of maternity and beyond.

Kelly, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?

A little about me- I am a Merchandise Product Development Graduate from FIDM and have over ten years work experience in e-commerce merchandising and marketing. I live in Las Vegas, NV with my husband, two children and two chihuahuas. On my free time I enjoy traveling with the family, wandering farmers markets and exploring thrift stores for fashion bargains.

Can you talk to us about how your side-hustle turned into something more.

I worked full-time for a large e-commerce company the first five years of building the business. I am naturally hyper-productive so juggling the two became routine. I would work on the business after hours and on weekends. Just last year, I was introduced to an amazing independent PR agent that helped me expose my brand to different media outlets. This really helped me scale up and pushed me to focus 100% on the business. We were featured on many digital gift guides, but most exciting Momper Romper was featured on Oprah Daily’s Top Luxury Gift for Moms.

Are there any books, videos or other content that you feel have meaningfully impacted your thinking?

Use as much technology as possible to simplify running your business! We have so many amazing tools at our fingertips these days and when talking to other business owners I find many of them don’t use them to their advantage. Some of my favorites are: TaxJar- Filing sales tax in multiple states is a breeze with tax professionals who auto-file for you!
