We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Kelly Decsy. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Kelly below.
Kelly, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Can you recount a time when the advice you provided to a client was really spot on?
Be Prepared!! The US government does not do anything quickly. I do US immigration for artist/creatives/entertainment/social media… they always thing they can just get a visa in a day…. sorry US government is slow and you need to be prepared for that – pre plan! Take the call way in advance to know what you need to do. Knowledge is power and once you know what you need to get an visa to the US then you can work towards that goal and get it way faster than waiting until late minute then not being able to get it in time for your schedule.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I am a US immigration lawyer that specializes in the O-1 visa and EB1a green card. This is the visa for all artists , creatives, athletes, entertainment industry, social media industry etc – it also covers people some start up, science, technology and experts of various field. I have an extra specialty in the social media space for this visa – I have over 200k followers on instagram and have done all the deals and am extremely knowledgeable in the business of social media. Most attorneys have no idea how social media as a business really works – if they do not understand the back of the business then they will not know how to best submit the visa application and how to highlight the achievements of a person in that business.
What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
Being up front and honest about chances of getting approved for a visa. I have a 99 percent success rate because I tell people if they do not have enough, what they need to do and them to wait and come back once they have what is needed. I truly care about my clients and the outcome of their cases. Getting approvals is the best way to get clients by word of mouth and referrals.
Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
For my film/tv clients and my influencers it is my background that built my reputations. They see I have over 200k followers on instagram and see that I understand all aspects of their business. For film/tv i was born and raised in LA i have been surrounded by the industry my entire life and I can use these connections to help clients!
