Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Kelly De Leon. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Kelly, appreciate you joining us today. What did your parents do right and how has that impacted you in your life and career?
I often get asked where I get my work ethic from and the answer to that is my parents. Ever since I was a kid I saw how hard both my mom and dad worked. They have taught me to work hard , to never give up , and if you want something in life you have to go and find it .
My dad is a business owner, and I have seen how he started his company with nothing but a truck . When he started he had slow days, months even but I saw his determination and the hard work he has had to put in. Even now that he’s been in business over 10 years he continues to work hard .
My mom has taught me one of the most important lessons I know, to believe in myself and to have faith and put God first in everything I do. When I decided to go into business for myself, I asked both of them for advice and they told me to bet on myself. I did and now one year later I’m so thankful they pushed me and believed in me. I wouldn’t be anywhere without my parents.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I am a Latina hairstylist, and now salon owner. I have been in business for one year now and a hairstylist for 3 . In 2020 when I decided to go to cosmetology school my dream was to one day own a salon, to be my own boss. In class we wrote a 5 year plan, 10 year plan and 15 year plan. I had given myself 5 years to be able to be at a point where I could possibly have my own salon. Now looking back and realizing I made that happen before the 5 years is just so shocking to me, sometimes I feel like this is all just a dream.
I am a full service stylist, I offer anything from precision haircuts to corrective color and everything in between, I love being able to cater to both my English and Spanish speaking clients because it allows me to have a bigger audience. I love being able to help people feel more confident in themselves. A lot of people don’t realize it but our hair plays a huge part in our identity . It makes us feel more beautiful and confident. I love being able to be part of more than just a haircut but also be part of a special moment .
I pride myself in my craft, from working on a blank canvas to fixing someone’s DIY hair. I do my best to really listen and give my clients exactly what they need when it comes to their hair. When you’re in my chair it is all about you and I make sure of that by offering a 1 on 1 experience for my clients. That allows me to really focus on the client, and to really get to know them on a personal level.

Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
This is a tough one because I feel like nowadays you can really grow a clientele a different number of ways . For me , although social media has been what initially brings me clients ,word of mouth is what really works for me. Social media helps me create a portfolio and for example will bring me one client. But that one client will go and tell friends and family and those are the people I have coming in.

Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
Social media, specifically Facebook groups has been the best source that I’ve used to get my name out there and get new clients. There’s many mom groups, town groups that I’m active on and although I don’t always get a Cleint from a certain group it really helps for other people to see my work or to follow me on social media which eventually leads to them becoming a client,
