We recently connected with Kelly Bolen and have shared our conversation below.
Kelly, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Let’s start with what makes profitability in your industry a challenge – what would you say is the biggest challenge?
With any type of blog, it takes time to get traction and recognition on Google and other search engines. With a lifestyle blog it is even harder because I cover so many subjects. But I absolutely love it! And I have dreams of it being a full time job one day. But for now it does make money, and it satisfies a creative need for me! I could not imagine not having it as part of my life!

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My husband and I have owned a successful commercial lawn main and landscaping company for 24 years. However, when our kids left for college I had a need to branch out and create something of my own. So with trial and error I started a blog that was initially supposed to be a resource for my hair care and wellness supplement clients. But I loved writing and helping others so much I revamped it and turned it into a lifestyle blog. A one stop resource for all things health, hair care, recipes and more. I work hard to provide unbiased reviews for products. Travel reviews so you know what to do and what not to waste time on. And also recipes that are normally quick and easy for any weeknight! I have found my passion in helping others and providing an informative way for people to get information easily. Especially busy moms!
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
Google is always changing. So I have to be consistent in learning about every Google update and how I need to adjust my blog to get followers and make sure my information gets first page search results. So some months everything is great and the next month something will tank because of an update. It (IS) can be very frustrating when you are doing everything correctly, and then Google does an update and decides it no longer likes your information. But I have been doing this for close to 5 years and I keep going. I wasn’t kidding when I said it is my passion!

Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
Funny you should ask. I am pivoting right now. I have always been a workaholic. So when my husband asked about “downsizing” his business as we are both in our 50’s, I said heck yes! We have been very blessed, but his business is hard work. And trying to find employees that are willing to work hard, isn’t always easy. So to help maintain the lifestyle we like, my son suggested we try starting a car sharing business. So in Oct of last year I bought my first car and it has been wonderful! I bought my second car this month! We call it Mountain Ready Car Rentals. It is relatively easy work and is doing well! Lots of driving to the airport though!!
