Kelly, appreciate you joining us today. Did you always know you wanted to pursue a creative or artistic career? When did you first know?
During college, I struggled with my first biology quiz. Almost failing, I surprised my professor with my snail illustration drawing on the paper. She suggested I consider art school. That moment changed my path—I embraced creativity and became a passionate artist.
Kelly, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
As a versatile freelance illustrator, I specialize in both 2D and 3D art. My creative journey began with a strong foundation in traditional illustration, which ignited my love for children’s book art and storytelling. The magic of bringing characters to life on the page has always captivated me. In addition to visual storytelling, I also find joy in crafting narratives. My dream is to one day publish my own children’s book—a tale that I can share with my 4-year-old and other young readers. Currently, I’m fully immersed in the rewarding role of being a mom, cherishing every moment with my little boy. However, my longing for the drawing board persists, and I eagerly await the opportunity to return to my artistic pursuits
How can we best help foster a strong, supportive environment for artists and creatives?
AI impacts artists in new ways, but licensing remains a challenge. We need clearer rules to protect creators, whether human or AI-driven. Collaboration is key to finding the right balance.
