Kellsie, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Let’s talk about social media – do you manage your own or do you have someone or a company that handles it for you? Why did you make the choice you did?

I manage all my social media for my business. I am currently in school studying Digital Media Advertising at Texas State University. I felt it was important for me to run all my business’ social media for a true experience of how to grow a business from a social media presence. I manage everything from content creation and planning to analytics, replying to direct messages, and promotional campaigns on our social media. That in itself is a full-time job and has made a huge impact on Golden Glo Spray Tan’s success. The majority of our clients find us through our social media. That is why our social media is a very important part of our brand and online image.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?

My name is Kellsie Dumas, and I am a small business owner of a mobile spray tanning business, Golden Glo Spray Tans, and a full-time student at Texas State University in San Marcos, TX. I started Golden Glo Spray Tans with my mom Michaella Dumas back in 2018. Golden Glo started from how confident spray tans made me feel and I loved the idea of giving that feeling to someone else. I found my passion to make people feel beautiful in their bodies and more confident in their skin.

We converted the front office of our home in Round Rock, TX, into an in-home spray tanning studio. Throughout high school, I would do spray tans for major events, capturing content to build my portfolio and experience in preparation to start spray tanning in a new city in 2020. Arriving at college with 2 years of spray tanning under my belt helped me grow my business and rebuild my clientele very fast.

Fast-forward 2 more years now, I have completely transitioned to only mobile spray tanning in San Marcos, TX. My mom Michaella Dumas now offers in-home studio and mobile spray tanning appointments in Georgetown, TX. Spray tanning has allowed us to make connections with amazing people and has presented us with many opportunities to get involved in our community.

Airbrush spray tanning is a customizable sunless tanning option. Before we begin a service we educate our clients with all prep and aftercare tips to help them further achieve a flawless and long-lasting spray tan. Spray tans are not one size fits all, what sets us apart from other spray tanning options in our area is that our spray tans are tailored to what is going to work best for your body. Some bodies will require more barrier cream and tanning solution than others, while some bodies will benefit from more setting powder in certain places. We communicate the entire process before we begin to set the client’s mind at ease and they know exactly what is being applied to their body.

We try to make our clients feel 100% comfortable the entirety of the appointment because it takes a lot for a person to get undressed in front of a stranger and trust us with the outcome of their spray tan. What we want people to know is that spray tans are not just a vanity service, they can actually be a form of self-care and a confidence booster. We are proud of what we do and excited to see where Golden Glo Spray Tans take us in the future.

What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?

My personality, knowledge, and client relationships helped build my reputation within my market. At least once a year I have a new client who reaches out to me for help repairing a poorly done spray tan from somewhere else. With the knowledge I have acquired through numerous training courses, I know exactly what went wrong and what we can do to fix it. Starting my spray tanning business really helped me step out of my comfort zone and allowed me to get very comfortable talking to all different types of people. I am very passionate about my business and I think that is relayed when I talk to potential and current clients. My clients’ referrals have been a huge factor in building my reputation for the spray tanning market in my area. It means a lot for them to be confident enough in my service to refer it to a family member or friend for an event as important as their wedding day.

How do you keep in touch with clients and foster brand loyalty?

I keep in touch with my clients through educational graphic posts on our main page, relatable and fun Instagram stories, direct messaging, comment sections, and even texting personally. A lot of my clients attend my same school and it brings me so much joy to see them in an everyday setting wearing their spray tan done by Golden Glo. Some of my clients along the way have even turned into great friendships. The first place I memorized how to get to without directions when I moved to college was one of my spray tanning clients’ houses. I had no idea how to get to the nearest supermarket, but I could get to their house with my eyes closed. I foster brand loyalty by creating a personable experience whether it’s your first time tanning with me or your tenth. A lot of clients who come to me have previously had a poor spray tanning experience. I feel honored to give them a fresh perspective on spray tans and give them a pleasant new experience. It is very common for me to message my clients the next day and ensure their satisfaction with the service I performed on them. My clients know my phone is always open to answer any of their lingering questions or uncertainties about the process. I also like to reward my client’s brand loyalty by providing frequent promotions and student discounts throughout the year. My clients always have the opportunity to receive a discounted spray tan by encouraging their friends to participate in a spray tanning party with them.
