We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Kellina Powell. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Kellina below.
Hi Kellina , thanks for joining us today. So let’s jump to your mission – what’s the backstory behind how you developed the mission that drives your brand?
Behind Kellina’s Empowerment Inc. lies a story of resilience, passion, and purpose. Losing my hearing at the age of four shaped my journey in ways I never imagined. I faced countless challenges, from learning to navigate a world built for hearing people to finding my voice in spaces that often silenced me. But I refused to let obstacles define my story. Kellina’s Empowerment Inc. was born from a deep desire to show young adults with disabilities that their dreams are valid, their voices matter, and their potential is limitless. My mission is to break down barriers, foster inclusivity, and empower others to rise above their circumstances. This is more than a business—it’s a movement to create a world where everyone feels seen, heard, and valued.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My name is Kellina Powell, and I’m a deaf coach, advocate, best-selling author, entrepreneur, and motivational speaker with a passion for empowering young adults with disabilities and educating others about the deaf community. Losing my hearing at the age of four was a pivotal moment that shaped my resilience and fueled my mission to break barriers and inspire change. Through Kellina’s Empowerment Inc., I provide mental health coaching, empowerment workshops, and speaker sessions where I share my personal journey and provide tools for overcoming challenges like anxiety, depression, and societal stigma.
As a speaker, I aim to motivate and educate audiences, encouraging them to embrace diversity and inclusion while fostering self-confidence and growth. What sets me apart is my lived experience—I’ve faced these challenges firsthand, and I use my story to inspire hope and empower others. I am most proud of transforming my personal struggles into a platform for change and advocacy. I want clients, followers, and fans to know that my work is not just about services—it’s about creating a movement where every voice matters, every story is valued, and every dream is within reach.

Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
One story that truly illustrates my resilience comes from my early school years, shortly after I lost my hearing at the age of four. I vividly remember sitting in a classroom, feeling isolated because I couldn’t communicate the same way as my peers. Teachers often overlooked me, and I was left struggling to keep up. At that young age, I realized that if I wanted to succeed, I couldn’t wait for the world to adapt to me—I had to find my own way forward.
I began advocating for myself, learning to read lips, writing notes to communicate, and refusing to let the barriers define me. Over time, I found ways to excel academically, eventually earning a bachelor’s degree in Psychology and a postgraduate certificate in Mental Health and Addiction. This experience taught me the importance of persistence and adaptability. It also inspired me to create Kellina’s Empowerment Inc., where I now empower others to rise above their challenges and embrace their potential. My story isn’t just about overcoming adversity; it’s about showing others that resilience can turn obstacles into opportunities for growth.

Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
Building my reputation within my market has been deeply rooted in authenticity, consistency, and a clear purpose. Sharing my personal journey as a deaf individual navigating a world not designed for me allowed people to connect with me on a human level. By being open about my struggles and triumphs, I’ve built trust with my audience, showing them that I genuinely understand the challenges they face.
The very first thing I did to start promoting myself was through podcasts—not by creating my own, but by becoming a guest on different shows. During COVID, I participated in over 150 podcasts within a year. This approach opened doors to opportunities I never expected and allowed me to reach a wider audience while sharing my story and mission.
I also started using LinkedIn to build relationships with high-level professionals. I took the risk of sending direct messages to ask for virtual coffee chats over Zoom. To my surprise, many responded, leading to valuable connections and opportunities. My advice is simple: take action—you never know who will say yes.
My dedication to providing value—whether through mental health coaching, empowerment workshops, or motivational speaking—has also played a key role. These efforts, combined with my passion for educating others about the deaf community, have helped me establish a reputation as a trusted voice in my market.
