We were lucky to catch up with Kellie Madison recently and have shared our conversation below.
Kellie, appreciate you joining us today. Can you talk to us about a project that’s meant a lot to you?
Nenu The Magical Wizard is definitely the most meaningful project I’ve worked on in my entire film career. As a filmmaker, I’ve told all kinds of stories—but this one is inherently different. Kids today are growing up in a world full of pressure, distraction, and self-doubt, and I wanted to create something that reminds them they’re already enough. Nenu encourages kids to slow down, connect to themselves, and trust the magic they have inside themselves. It’s playful and imaginative, but the message couldn’t be more real—or more needed right now.
Kellie, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I’ve spent the past fifteen years working as a filmmaker—writing, directing, and producing stories that span genres, from action to thriller to heartfelt character-driven pieces. Storytelling has always been my passion, but over time, I felt a growing pull to create something that could truly make a positive impact, especially for kids. That’s what led me to develop Nenu the Magical Wizard, a children’s book and animated series that teaches kids to believe in themselves and trust the power they already have inside.
With Nenu, I’ve combined my love for imaginative storytelling with a real need I see in the world today: helping children grow up with confidence, emotional intelligence, and a sense of self-worth. In a noisy, fast-paced world, Nenu offers something grounding—a chance to slow down and reconnect with what really matters. I’m most proud of creating a character and world that’s as magical as it is meaningful. At the heart of everything I do—whether it’s directing a film or building a brand—is the belief that stories have the power to heal, to empower, and to remind us who we are.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The most rewarding thing about being a creative artist is getting to turn emotion into something tangible—something that connects with others. There’s nothing like watching someone laugh, cry, or feel seen because of something you created from scratch. It’s a way of making meaning out of chaos, and sharing that meaning with the world. At its best, art bridges gaps, sparks conversations, and reminds people they’re not alone. That kind of impact is what keeps me inspired every day.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
At the heart of my creative journey is the goal of connection. I want to tell stories that build empathy and help people understand one another a little better. Whether it’s through film or something like Nenu, I’m always looking for ways to bring people closer—to themselves, to each other, and to the world around them. For me, the real power of storytelling is its ability to create those moments of understanding that stick with you long after the story ends.
