We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Kellie Finch. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Kellie below.
Kellie , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today What was it like going from idea to execution? Can you share some of the backstory and some of the major steps or milestones?
I’m a wedding and lifestyle photographer in Maryland, I’ve been in business for over 10 years so to say I’m not new to this would be a slight understatement. I come from a family of serial entrepreneurs so being in business for myself comes naturally. That being said, I’ve had my photography studio locally for about 2 years and to be quite honest, my clients and I simply outgrew the space. I would often become uninspired and lacked the motivation which eventually led to burn out.
I had the idea that I wanted to be able to serve not just my clients but my local community and beyond. I not only needed motivation, I needed extra space. My idea was to create a space specifically curated for the creative mind. Something that accommodates photography, video, podcasts and beyond.
The opportunity honestly fell into my lap, a local space became available and I jumped to the opportunity! In this instance the moment that I created the vision the provision came.
I had 2 months to completely pack up my old studio and start fresh. I had a blank canvas to work with so I sat down and designed my floor plan and got to work! Before I put one piece of furniture in my new space, I gave it a name. Faven Creative Studio. “Faven” is an African term that means “light”. Which is so fitting because this new space is filled with gorgeous natural light. I chose this word because a light is what I want this space to be in my community but also how I intend for people to feel when they leave.
We have come such a long way from a tiny studio and a completely burnt out photographer and business owner to a beautifully embellished creative space with 7 custom creative sets and a host of other amenities. From a thought to execution, Faven is set to open January 29, 2023!

Kellie , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My name is Kellie Finch of KFinch Photography. I’m a wedding, portrait and lifestyle photographer and now creative space owner based in Maryland.
I offer an array of services such as branding photography for business owners, curating images for big life moments such as weddings and engagements just to name a few. Among many other things I’m also a mom to an incredible son, Kayden. My son is my “why” . I’m building a legacy for him and for future generations to come.
While I’ve gained many accolades, publications and awards for my work, I feel most accomplished when my clients are satisfied with their images and they leave their session feeling better than the way they came. I pride myself in giving my clients a fun and uplifting experience.
I want potential clients or those who have been wanting to work with me to know that when you choose to book with me you’re making an investment in yourself. The images that we create together will be a legacy, or the next step in your professional life.

How did you build your audience on social media?
With being a photographer, I feel that it was quite easy for me to build an. Audience because my product speaks for itself and there is a platform dedicated just to photos and video so that works perfectly for me.
One thing I did to stay ahead of the curve with so much competition these days is staying consistent with posting. I feel that a lot of business owners think that to stay relevant you have to post everyday and while they may be true for some industries, that wasn’t the case for me. As long as you’re consistent with posting even if it’s once a week you’ll still get engagement.
Lastly, I engaged with my audience. I follow a-lot of people and I comment on other creators’ pages. This keeps the communication open and keeps my business before people’s eyes.
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
A lesson that I had to unlearn as a business owner is that you have to have tough skin. In particular, being a service based business you cannot expect everyone to buy from you, especially in an over saturated industry like photography. I’ve learned to enjoy the experiences with people and be grateful for the time I get to share with them even if they don’t come back.
