Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Kellie Collins. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Kellie, thanks for joining us today. Can you talk to us about a project that’s meant a lot to you?
One could think of someone who does brows as just that. But it’s so much more. Being able to restore peoples confidence through my art by creating customized brows for them is what drives me. Each one of my clients is special to me but working with someone that has alopecia or an individual that has lost their brows due to cancer treatment, that’s where i know I’m really making an impact. This work is so rewarding and I’m so grateful I’m able to do this work.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
With over fifteen years of experience in the beauty industry, I started my career in Esthetics. I spent several years as an Esthetician performing facials and treatments but it was the art of shaping eyebrows that I was most passionate about.
Channeling the skills I had mastered, I decided I wanted to pursue a career in makeup. I did so and for the next several years enjoyed a successful career as a makeup artist specializing in bridal makeup as well as work on photoshoots.
But brows called me back. I took my first microblading training in 2018 and I was hooked. I’ve since completed advanced courses, created my own unique style and techniques and have even trained aspiring cosmetic tattoo artists myself.
But most importantly I’ve had the honor to have worked on hundreds of clients, all of which I have individually created customized brows for.
Truly grateful to be able to touch so many lives with this craft.
Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
The beauty industry is forever changing. Services are constantly improving and evolving. There was a time when I was so busy chasing the trends and trying keep up with those around me. So much so that I was definitely feeling the burnout. I took a step back and even left the beauty industry for a few years. I think it was that time away that made me realize that I was truly passionate about it and wanted to be involved. I didn’t need to keep up with everyone else but rather be true to myself and do what felt right for me. I think staying authentic to yourself and doing what makes you happiest is ultimately what people gravitate towards. Pivoting and changing your path is never a bad thing as long as you’re staying true to yourself and doing what it is you want to do.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
I think the fact that others find joy in my art is the most rewarding. It’s subjective right? My art, what I create, it won’t be for everyone. But the people that do connect with it, that’s what makes it all worth while. You’re putting yourself out there in the world to be judged and analyzed, it’s scary! But nothing worth doing isn’t.
