We recently connected with Kellie Block and have shared our conversation below.
Kellie, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Can you walk us through some of the key steps that allowed you move beyond an idea and actually launch?
A few years ago, friend of mine suggested that I showcase my home on social media. As an Interior Designer, I create new spaces and vignettes in my home every day, so why not let the world see my design ideas through my eyes on social media. One post at a time, I started gaining likes, comments, and followers. Then my photos were noticed by major brands…brands asking to use my photos on their social media sites and websites. Multiple brands reaching out through email and direct messages to create post(s) or stories and now reel(s) for the brand’s products. I just kept growing. It was hard work…hours and hours of creating, staging, and photographing products. Over time I became a social media influencer calling my own shots…sending my requirements/terms to the brands. Social Media is a 24 hour job…It Never Sleeps!
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
When I first began Metals And Magnolias, it was simply a place to share my interior design ideas with friends. I started photographing my life at home. I founded Metas And Magnolias with a mission to give others a peak of what goes on in my world, and I have been at it ever since. Posting here and there, but slowly found myself working on new design ideas whenever I had spare time. That’s when I knew…Full Speed Ahead!
My goal is to encourage and inspire you through thoughtful and intentional design…focusing on current design trends and mixing new with old.
It brings me so much JOY to meet people who share my passion.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of being a social media influencer is the people. I meet so many people on social media through comments and direct messages. I try to connect with each person on a somewhat personal level. I like knowing what I create on social media has an impact on someone’s life. I enjoy helping others through his or her home decor journey.
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
I often compare myself to others on Social Media. My motto is You DO You…which I constantly remind myself daily. I have changed my thinking from do not compare yourself to others instead learn from others. I am inspired by other social media posts, stories, and reels. Being inspired by others takes less energy and it is a healthier approach to social media.
