I decided to become a travel agent two years ago and it was the best decision ever. I remember feeling burnt out working as a nurse and one of my friends suggested the travel business to me. At first, I was apprehensive because this wasn’t my first time starting a business. I was scared it would fail and I would be out of money. However, the travel business just stood out to me. The idea of being able to travel at a fraction of the cost and make money booking trips was appealing to me. My only regret is not starting my business sooner because I would’ve been even further in my journey.

Hello! My name is Kelli Yarbrough and I currently reside in Dallas, TX. I am a travel agent/rep which means that I book travel for clients and help others become travel agents themselves. I love being able to make a difference in people’s lives. People travel to escape the stressors of life and I’m glad I’m able to plan wonderful vacations. I typically book cruises, resorts, and excursions for clients. I think what sets me apart from others is my passion for the business. I really want everyone on my team to succeed.
Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
The main lesson I had to learn as a new business owner was patience. It’s hard in the beginning to have faith that everything will work out. A successful business doesn’t happen overnight.
Can you talk to us about how your side-hustle turned into something more.
My travel business is a side hustle for now but I do hope that one day it will replace my nursing job.
