In my experience one of the fundamental misunderstandings prevalent in Corporate America about our industry, particularly in marketing, is the misconception that instant results can be achieved through sporadic efforts or quick-fix strategies. Marketing isn’t a one-time event or a magic bullet; it’s a continuous process that demands time, strategy, and consistency to yield tangible results and support sustainable growth.
Many organizations often overlook the fact that building brand awareness, cultivating customer loyalty, and driving meaningful engagement requires a long-term investment. It’s not just about launching a flashy campaign or posting a couple of ads on social. Instead, it’s really about crafting a comprehensive strategy tailored to the brand’s objectives, target audience, and market dynamics.
I recall an instance where a client approached us with the expectation of boosting their sales within 3 weeks, leveraging a single marketing initiative. Despite our efforts to emphasize the importance of a holistic approach and the necessity for consistent messaging across various channels, they stood firm and refused to take our expert advice. Consequently, their campaign failed to resonate with their audience, and they did not hit their goal.

I started in this industry by happenstance – while working as a receptionist for the Walmart brand Faded Glory, the current Public Relations Coordinator took me under her wing and showed me the ropes. Recognizing the transformative power of effective messaging and communication, I decided to pursue entrepreneurship and launched my own PR firm. I then pivoted a few times within marketing to launch brndMethod Creative Agency.

Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
While running my PR firm, I found myself at a crossroads when the traditional media landscape started to undergo major shifts with the growth of social media platforms. Recognizing the transformative potential of digital channels and the evolving preferences of consumers, I realized that clinging solely to traditional methods would limit our ability to adapt and thrive in a rapidly changing industry.
The decision to pivot towards digital was not without its challenges. It required a fundamental reevaluation of our strategies, skill sets, and approach to client engagement. We needed to invest in training our team members in digital marketing techniques, content creation, and social media management while simultaneously reshaping our service offerings to align with the demands of the digital age.
Despite the initial uncertainties and learning curves, the pivot ultimately proved to be a catalyst for growth and innovation. By embracing digital platforms, we were able to reach broader audiences, engage with consumers in more meaningful ways, and deliver greater value to our clients.
