We were lucky to catch up with Kelli Ferguson recently and have shared our conversation below.
Kelli, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today To kick things off, we’d love to hear about things you or your brand do that diverge from the industry standard
Something that is really important to me is being able to work with even the smallest business and the smallest budget. Many people in my industry have minimums that they charge for their services, and while I understand and respect their need to do that, I realize it makes services like mine unattainable for businesses that are small, new, or ready to take things to the next level.
I committed from the beginning to work with clients of ALL sizes, and come up with service packages that will fit any budget, and now I have a range of client packages and sizes and I enjoy the experience I gain from working with all of them. I can relate to entrepreneurs who are just starting to grow their dream and to business owners who are growing so large so quickly that they need to hand off things like social media and bookkeeping to someone else so they can keep up.
One amazingly positive side effect of committing to no minimums is that I’ve built great relationships with my clients and they have become my best source of new clients. They share us with their friends and fellow business owners and we all grow together, and that is where my heart is when it comes to entrepreneurship!

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I own a social media management and bookkeeping company that provides services to small business owners, and I also run some local social media pages – @hellogreenville, @hellosimpsonville, and @helloupstatesc. I started my business after completing my MBA and wanted to do something that invests in entrepreneurship. I had been a small business owner for over a decade and felt like I could relate to other growing businesses and the challenges that come along with starting and expanding something that started as a dream.
Currently, we serve clients here in the Upstate of South Carolina and all over the country, and our local social media pages are growing and thriving, so I’m investing more time and energy in those as well. We just launched the Hello Greenville website and are working on one for Hello Simpsonville, where I make my home here in South Carolina.

We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
Engagement, engagement, engagement. To me, that is the key to growing a social media presence and following that is realistic, organic, and benefits everyone. This is what I did for my own business and have gotten multiple clients through sharing and connecting genuinely on social media. This is what I focus on when managing social media for others and for my local pages.
The advice I would give about building on audience on social media is the same I share with my clients: consistency is key. Content is obviously important, but don’t forget about consistent engagement. Follow other accounts, comment on and share content you find interesting or relevant, reply to comments and messages you receive. Be present and organic and the growth will come.

What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
The most effective strategy for me in growing my clientele has been to consistenly make connections. There are so many ways to do that, from joining networking groups to being involved in online groups, but find a way that works for you, and don’t be afraid to try many ways until you find the one. I use social media connections because I’m in the social media business and it works.
Don’t forget that one of the BEST ways to grow your clientele is by making your current clients happy and doing quality, consistent work for them. Exceed expectations, listen to their needs, and serve them with integrity and they will become your best source of new clients!
