We recently connected with Kelley Sibley and have shared our conversation below.
Kelley , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. So, let’s start with trends – what are some of the largest or more impactful trends you are seeing in the industry?
Living on the westside of LA where health is of the utmost importance, you start to see what health trends come first. As I continue to live bi-coastal, I am always tapping into what is emerging across the country. Letting food be thy medicine is so big right now. The trend of supplements is starting to fade out, and now, it is transitioning into food. Bamboo originated from the work of Dr. Max Gerson who created a natural treatment system that activates the body’s ability to heal itself through a specific protocol that includes raw juices. I feel like health trends are finally coming back full circle.
As people move away from supplements – which some are fantastic – people are starting to understand and explore how we get these nutrients through food? Nutrients are most potent through their original state. Western medicine and natural medicine both agree on the necessary nutrients, but differ in the way people receive them. Western medicine suggests pills and supplements while natural medicine gets to the real root of truly healing the body by receiving the nutrients through food.
There are so many different ways to heal through food. You can drink juices like the ones we offer at Bamboo, you can eat a paleo or vegan diet – the options are endless and no two bodies are the same. Different foods heal different types of bodies so it’s important to find what works for you.
The supplement aisles at the grocery stores are now food including spirulina, manuka honey, and herbal teas. These options are slowly taking over the top options for getting your vitamin C and vitamin D. This is what Bamboo is really about – giving you something that supports your health without any negative consequences. Healing through food provides nutrients in their most natural state and I’m grateful to be a part of the company that is already doing that.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
When I created the brand, I was going through a large health issue. I realized there was no high-quality juice in the Atlanta area, which was a huge issue because it was a big part of my healing journey. I was making these juices for myself daily of these juices and the healing properties that result from drinking one daily. People who were aware of my juicing journey started asking if they could buy one from me, so it was a very organic start to the business.
The company started in my kitchen where I began pressing juice in unique flavor combinations after a health scare. Drawing inspiration from Dr. Max Gerson – who created a natural treatment system activating the body’s ability to heal itself through a specific protocol that includes raw juices – I created these healing juices for myself daily and thought about how wonderful it would be if I could share this with others in need.
Once word got out to family and friends, I found there was a large demand. I began pressing extra juice and left the juices in a fridge for pick up. From there, the small operation turned into a full-fledged business thanks to word-of-mouth and support from that early community. We at Bamboo continue to live out our core value of focusing on our community every day.
Our kitchen is situated in the sustainable community of Serenbe in Chattahoochee Hills, Georgia. All produce for our juices, elixirs, smoothies and almond milks are locally sourced in the Atlanta area from partner farms. This ensures we not only have the best ingredients but helps support the local economy as well.
Bamboo offers delicious and healthy juices made from the highest quality, organic ingredients. We go beyond the incredibly important, yet simple aspects of what is labeled on our glass bottles – raw, 100% organic, and cold pressed juices.
We studied people in over 40 countries for more than 15 years, especially in blue zones (areas of the world where people live the longest). Based on this research, all of our juices, milks, and smoothies are meticulously handcrafted with a focus on maximizing health benefits while maintaining optimal taste.
I’m most proud that we can continue to offer the public our meaningful products supporting the immune system and healing as well as overall health. Our small yet incredibly purposeful menu of juices, elixirs and smoothies to help people feel good. We’re grateful to share that with the community. Our products create real change and have real effects.
Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
It is most definitely being authentic. More than ever, people can see through the BS. I used to do kitchen tours at Bamboo and when someone is authentic, you can feel it – you can feel it with everything. How you feel after you drink Bamboo juice, when you go into the store, when you talk to the store managers who care about what they’re making – authenticity is at our core.
We got our reputation purely because of people telling others after they tried our products. It was never a big advertisement or social media campaign that grew our numbers. As we continue to grow, we’ve stayed true to our quality and our mission – to give people something that supports health and well being.
How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
Luckily, I’ve never had to pivot from the business because this business rings so true to me. The juices we create at Bamboo are so potent and medicinal that it consistently fits into my life and the life of our customers.
Personally, there’s been two times when I have had major health issues and had to completely change my life in order to heal my body. It’s so important to listen to that call when your body is telling you something.
Surrendering, pivoting and trusting allowed me to create Bamboo. Because of my first health issue, I found myself reading every health book I could get my hands on and that is when Bamboo emerged. What a gift.
And then I had this divine experience of another health scare which caused me to step back and my attitude was, as difficult as it was with what I was going through – what beautiful thing is going to emerge from it?
To be in the business of changing lives and making people healthier and healing through your product is a gift.
