We were lucky to catch up with Kelley Samford recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Kelley thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. So let’s jump to your mission – what’s the backstory behind how you developed the mission that drives your brand?
Our mission at Seaux Stitched by Kelley is to design thoughtful and enduring mementos for your little ones. From the moment I was pregnant with my son and walked into the first baby boutique, I was captivated by the charm of classic children’s clothing. Dressing a little one is a truly precious experience, particularly as those initial years are so fleeting. Whether celebrating your baby’s arrival, christenings, birthday festivities, or their first school day, the art of hand embroidery brings an extra layer of significance to these milestones. I am truly honored to play a part in these memories through each stitch I meticulously create.
Kelley, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I’m Kelley, a mom of 2 toddlers, wife to an a LSU sports fanatic, an iced espresso drinker, lover of all things grandmillenial, and the face behind Seaux Stitched. After embracing motherhood as a stay at home mom, I quickly realized I craved a creative outlet. I discovered a way to infuse my children’s clothing with personalized and unique details through hand embroidery. I work directly with customers to create one of a kind pieces for them to treasure forever. Through growing my social media brand I have been able to connect with so many mamas who also crave a creative outlet. This is when my brain began to spin as I wondered how I could assist others in creating these keepsake items for their own children. Thus, Sip + Stitch educational classes were born. I offer in-person and virtual hand embroidery classes that include beginner supplies and a workshop taught by me with a hand drawn design. You will leave class ready to embellish everything in your little ones closet!!
How did you build your audience on social media?
I really started my social media page as a way to showcase the beautiful items I was creating. I didn’t expect for it to take off the way it did. I began sharing more personal and intimate details of my life and connecting with other moms (going through the same stages of motherhood as me) and it became natural to form these virtual friendships with my followers. My biggest piece of advice is to stay true to yourself. Do what feels authentic to you and just show up. It doesn’t have to be perfect for it to make an impact. I’ve let my followers see the good, the bad, and everything in between. Not only has it been therapeutic for me, I’ve received countless messages of gratitude for sharing the messy and challenging aspects of motherhood and small business ownership. Even making a difference for just one person can create a ripple effect of connection and support. It’s incredible to hear that my efforts are helping others feel seen and understood.
How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
Social media has been a game changer in building my reputation within the hand embroidery industry. It’s given me the opportunity to connect with so many women around the world that I otherwise wouldn’t have reached. I focus on making personal connections with each of my customers, and I truly believe that’s what sets me apart when I see my business being recommended. My followers feel like they know me, like we’re friends, and as a result, my brand often comes to mind first when they think of the industry..
