Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Kelley Ryan. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Kelley, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Can you tell us a bit about who your hero is and the influence they’ve had on you?
I wouldn’t necessarily say she is my hero, but I really look up to the artist Ashley Longshore. I think her success is remarkable considering she is self taught and to be a current famous artist is truly unique these days! I admire the way she says whatever she feels and isn’t afraid to fully be herself which is something by that comes through in her artwork.

Kelley, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I am an artist specifically a painter specializing in painting portraits and patterns. My works are a celebration of pop culture icons and often retro wallpaper patterns and motifs. I predominantly paint in acrylic, often interweaving mixed media collage as well as 3D elements. My journey began in childhood, painting alongside my mother, igniting a lifelong passion for art. Building on this foundation, I pursued my formal education at Texas State University, honing your skills and expanding your artistic vision.
The vibrant energy and dynamic art scene of New York City beckoned, drawing me to its galleries and exhibitions. Here, I showcased my work in multiple galleries gaining recognition and establishing myself as an artist. I showed at the renowned Galerie Bartoux for many years here where I had my first solo exhibition.
Now, as a resident artist at The Arts Warehouse in Florida, I continue to push myself in ideas and techniques. I relish in the communal environment and working alongside so many other creatives. I recently had the honor of showcasing in Art Basel Miami and will be showing in NY Art Expo this April.

What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?
Social media, specifically Instagram has bern such a good source for growing ny client base. The more one puts into it the more you get out. It definitely has to be approached as an aspect of the business and not necessarily just as entertainment.
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
Well i can say from experience that the art world, specifically the gallery community is very tricky and hard to break into. It tends to be all about who you know-like many other industries. I have made many cold calls and sent tons of submissions to no avail, often not even getting a response at all. But there are always a few that work out-one cannot let rejections deter you!
