Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Kellette. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Kellette thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Learning the craft is often a unique journey from every creative – we’d love to hear about your journey and if knowing what you know now, you would have done anything differently to speed up the learning process.
My passion for assisting artists ( and businesses ) with their branding didn’t just happen; it was an unexpected yet deliberate journey. It all began with The K-List, a music blog I managed from Denton, Texas, alongside my college radio DJ role. At that time, I wasn’t even singing; I was deeply involved in the Dallas music scene, networking, and attending open mics, connecting with a plethora of talented artists. Interacting with their cultures, sounds, and origin stories inspired me to share their narratives and gain a profound understanding of their music’s essence. It wasn’t until I worked as a bottle girl at the House of Blues, witnessing the entire show process firsthand, that my desire to enter the music industry became overwhelming. Hence, I started singing and, after earning my public relations degree, founded FRQNCY Media, a platform supporting emerging artists and small businesses. My journey taught me that self-doubt can be a hindrance. I faced challenges when conforming to others’ expectations or pursuing goals not aligned with my own. I learned the importance of resilience, continuous learning, perseverance, self-focus, precise intention, self-belief, and prioritizing personal growth. Embracing obstacles and staying dedicated to your vision, thoughts, words, actions, and energy is crucial for success. Trust in your purpose and abilities, and stay committed to fulfilling your unique calling. Remember, your perspective, your light, and your creativity are yours alone, shaping your journey and defining your accomplishments.

Kellette, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I started my journey in the music industry as a blogger, and over time, I’ve evolved to being a versatile and knowledgeable resource. It’s sometimes surreal, but with great knowledge comes great responsibility. I enjoy sharing my expertise with fellow artists and entrepreneurs. My focus is on educating others about effective business and branding practices, enabling them to thrive and achieve their objectives. Being involved in someone’s branding process is highly personal and requires vulnerability. I believe that sharing information empowers individuals to navigate challenges with clarity and wisdom. When you possess wisdom, decisions become clear without being clouded by emotions or haste. I specialize in social media, marketing, branding, networking, website design, and social growth. It is crucial for any artist or business to project a polished image and presence. I take pride in positioning my clients and their brands to be perceived in the desired light. I like to think of my career as being in the business of perception. Whether you are a single mom running a lash business part-time and pursuing music in your spare time, presenting your brand as a high-end lash company and projecting your music like you are the next Erykah Badu is essential. It’s vital to live as if you’ve already achieved your goals. Instead of faking it till you make it, embody the success you aspire to. By living and presenting yourself as if you’ve already succeeded, you will attract success.

How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
There was a point where I had to stand on no longer being good enough for a beginner. When you start a hobby and you are learning the basics and sharing your milestones with others, you and everyone are so excited about all the things you are getting to do because it is something new. Most times, people are encouraging and supportive because “oh look such and such is doing this, how cool”. Over-time, they become less and less impressed by your Soundcloud links and don’t want to buy one of your homemade Tumblr cups. You have to continue to grown and learn your craft so you can continue to impress and amaze yourself! When you come out of that grey period and enter the energy of consistently sharing new, unique, and innovative things, that is when the excitement returns. Most people , however, by then, give up and are content with being good enough for a beginner. I was acting in my purpose but I was surrounding myself with things that were destined to snatch me out of my alignment. I was too immersed in the lifestyle that comes with being a creative that I stopped being creative. I stopped learning and collaborating. I was so arrogant and thought I just knew everything there was to know about the industry. Then, it got to the point where I was so down in the trenches I no longer had the resources to do my craft. I had to make a choice. Either I could continue doing the things that would further deter me from living my dreams or choose to believe in the knowing I had that I am here to be a way maker through music and media. I had to distance myself from people and even places that no longer benefit where I was determined to go. It was a hard lesson to learn that just because you care about people not everyone is supposed to go where you are being lead. It is lonely, at first, but when you truly start moving in your purpose and meeting others aligned in theirs that are genuinely excited and supportive of yours, you find peace and even relief in making a choice that you know can only take you closer to destiny.

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
It wasn’t until I started receiving and reading comments and messages from people acknowledging how I’ve inspired or helped them that I truly understood the impact of my work. People on the street would approach me, recalling interviews where my words uplifted them. Such moments are incredibly gratifying for any artist. Often, artists release profound emotions in a raw and vulnerable expression, like in songs about death or heartbreak. They lay bare their feelings to the world while inviting critique. When you discover that your art resonates with others, bringing healing, inspiration, evolution, or connection in a meaningful way, there’s an indescribable sense of unity. Artists, possess the gift of transforming experiences into art to share with others. It’s crucial for artists to recognize that this gift is a powerful tool that requires careful handling. Art is a reflection of life; once created, it takes on a life of its own, impacting and changing people, sparking conversations, and altering perspectives. When your art is embraced and evolves as intended, it signifies a level of acceptance that you cant get from just anywhere. We are talking about complete strangers crediting you for them feeling heard, or seen, or even loved. Creating art that elicits such profound connections with people worldwide, each with their own unique experiences, is deeply satisfying and a joyful, yet very humbling, honor.
