Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Kellee Conrad. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Kellee, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Let’s start with what makes profitability in your industry a challenge – what would you say is the biggest challenge?
Most creative people are multi-passionate, and as artists this keeps the excitement of creating alive, but as a business owner it’s the silent killer of profitability. The mind is powerful at telling artists that we need to do all the things, seven different streams of income, charge low prices and do it all from the beginning each time we go to make an offer. But the truth is that if creative business owners learn the “Power of One”, as in picking a targeted niche, creating one impactful offer and going all in on one platform to deliver our message, they would be leaps and bounds ahead.
Everytime you create something new in your business you are dividing your energy and focus. It’s a natural instinct for artists to, well, create lots of things and not limit their possibilities, but this is a sure fire recipe for disaster and burnout. Instead I suggest that my clients pick one business model and one client to focus on and then go all in. Build all roads to this one thing until it becomes its own profitable powerhouse. Put blinders on to everything else and go all in.
I’m sure that many of you are afraid to put all your eggs in one basket, but then instead of delivering one thing home safely, you look more like the Cat in the Hat and his great balancing act…until all the things fall. Consistency, commitment and learning the foundations of marketing and sales on ONE CORE OFFER is what will bring you to the finish line of success.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I’m a 4th generation artist and I grew up watching the artists in my neighborhood create amazing businesses that could support a large family and comfortable lifestyle. I didn’t know how unusual this was until I hit adult life and found myself at a loss on how to create a career from my creativity.
Fast forward two decades and it all came full circle when I built a successful art course business on my own platform that grew beyond my wildest dreams. Suddenly I found myself wanting to understand the ins and outs of how you really build a remarkable business. It’s been a never ending quest to grow a sustainable, profitable business that impacts thousands.
As I’ve developed my own path to entrepreneurship, many other struggling creative businesses have reached out for help. I knew that distilling my processes and methods down to something effective and tangible was the key to helping others. For the last two years I have been running small coaching programs and getting amazing results for my clients.
My specialty and it’s a pretty unique spot to be in. There are some amazing coaches that serve other types of business owners and there are some amazing artists who help artists learn to paint and sell their artwork in a traditional sense, but I serve the intersection between running a business and being an artist. We have different needs and serve our customers in different ways than many other industries. I’m proud to say that the path I’m on to help artists build profitable powerhouse businesses is paying off in the most Remarkable ways.

Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
The pivot from teaching art courses online and in-person to being a mentor for creative businesses has be a huge growth experience for me. It’s hard to turn your attention away from something that is doing well financially and take a risk on the bigger thing. Not even sure if the demand will meet my offer, I had to jump and see where the mentorship business would lead me. But, in following my core advice to any entrepreneur, especially creatives, I knew I needed to focus on only one main thing if I wanted it to succeed and make an impact. I’ve slowly been letting go of my first successful business model and growing Made Remarkable with clear intention to make a difference in millions of lives over the years to come. It’s a big move to make and my life’s calling.

Can you open up about how you funded your business?
The beautiful thing about most online creative businesses is that you need very little money to get started. In fact, if you go into debt starting your business you are probably on the wrong path. I had the support of my family for my personal needed, so most of what I have built has been on the back of hours and hours of my hard work. And much of my growth now comes from reinvesting in myself and my business.
