Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Kelisha White. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Kelisha , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. The first dollar your business earns is always special and we’d love to hear how your brand made its first dollar of revenue.
Freshly graduated from high school I needed some clients to start my portfolio. So I asked my best friend to let me cut her hair and for every person she sent to get their hair serviced, I would take that amount off her next service. She declined the discount and sent me several clients from her haircut.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I came into this industry at a young self taught. I had a love for it since the age of 5. When I got to high school I took a course and decided to pursue my craft, by graduation I was a licensed Cosmetologist in the state of Louisiana. I was determined to take this passion to every level it had to offer by becoming an educator as well as pursuing my doctorine in cosmetology. What sets me apart from others in my eyes, is being able to put myself in the clients shoes and give them above and beyond treatment I challenge myself to do this by making sure every visit is better than the first visit. The services I offer are customized to fit each individual client’s texture and style servicing all ethnicities with cuts, colors, relaxed and natural styling options, and extensions. I also offer services for clients experiencing alopecia and other scalp disorders. I hope my clients and future clients understand my passion and desires for them is to feel free from the worries of the world in my chair with peace and tranquility, as well as feeling beautiful from the inside to the outside.

Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
In 2019 when covid hit the world, I was placed on oxygen not knowing if I’d survive upon being released from the hospital, I knew I had to rest but needed to get the peace that hair bring to me, So I decided to wheel my oxygen tank and myself into the salon and take clients of course not over working myself but I believe it was working in the salon that helped my recovery.

Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
The best strategy for me is getting out and talking with people. Going to the places people are destined to like the grocery store, offering them hair tips and free advice and passing out business literature whike allowing them to ask me questions, not everyone is on social media or may be on a break we need those from time to time. So it’s important to actually socialize beyond the keyboard.
