Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing Kelah McKee better known as “ThePolishedLady. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Kelah, appreciate you joining us today. Learning the craft is often a unique journey from every creative – we’d love to hear about your journey and if knowing what you know now, you would have done anything differently to speed up the learning process.
I learned how to do what I do by not waiting and practicing my craft every time I got an opportunity to showcase my hosting/ media personality skills. At first I thought you started with experience and then you would be successful. No, start where you are. The tools that help pushed me forward was self confidence, researching and taking time to go to online seminars that would help me grow better and better.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
My business started off a “No”. Someone telling I can’t do what I believed was what I’m meant to do. I’m thankful for the No’s because it made me go harder to prove that I earned my spot in my industry. I interview black entrepreneurs on my platform to bring positive brand awareness to their businesses and brands. Along with that I host and am a highly respected influencer in my city of Indianapolis.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The most rewarding part of being a creative in this space is really servicing my community through way of my voice. I love when clients come back to me with stories of how I connected them with their target audience or businesses to grow and expand their brands to the next level.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
This year alone has been tough. Losing my place , car , and self confidence all in a short amount of time. Still getting bookings and having to Uber to meetings and pick up my son. Being an influencer is no joke. You are always in the public eye. People want to meet you and meet the same person you display on social media. You have to show up and show out. The more you do that the more successes you will start to see.
