We recently connected with Kela Johnson and have shared our conversation below.
Kela, appreciate you joining us today. What were some of the most unexpected problems you’ve faced in your business and how did you resolve those issues?
COVID -19 put a halt to my business. Cosmetics are part of my business and lip products were my main focus. Once COVID hit masks were required so lips were no longer visible. My sales began to decline and I was forced to take a break.
Kela, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Exclusively Kela is a fashion and beauty company dedicated to providing stylish and classy pieces in addition to the latest cosmetics trends for fashion forward individuals. The company’s mission is Keeping Every Lady Attractive! My focus as a designer is to create a wildfire in the fashion industry. I love to design, create, and reconstruct fashion forward pieces.
2018 was a great year for Exclusively Kela. I was nominated as Atlanta’s Hottest Accessories Designer and also launched The “Sinless Collection”, a line of lip wear that includes an array of beautiful colors that enhance the essence of the face. Exclusively Kela’s products have been used by fashion stylist for the following:
T V Shows:
Atlanta Exes
Being Mary Jane
R&B Divas of Atlanta
Married to Medicine
Basketball Wives
Do you sell on your site, or do you use a platform like Amazon, Etsy, Cratejoy, etc?
I love that I can sell 24/7 via my website www.exclusivelykela.org. It’s a great way to connect to a mass amount of customers at once. However the downside is that I won’t be able to speak to my customers individually so the business/client relationship isn’t the same as when I set up Pop Up Shops and I can recommend different products based on the client’s style and personality.
Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
2020 was a year that caused many businesses to pivot. The arrival of the Corona Virus, the mask mandates, and the quarantines pushed me to get back into the workforce due to a major sales decrease. I shut down the website and decided to wait until the world seemed somewhat normal again to relaunch my business. 2 years later, I’m back in the Cosmetics Industry and more excited than ever to present my brand to the world.
