Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Kel Tran. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Kel, appreciate you joining us today. So let’s jump to your mission – what’s the backstory behind how you developed the mission that drives your brand?
A Queen’s Room was founded in 2021 with a clear mission: to provide a safe and supportive space where individuals can embrace their true selves, build confidence, and connect with a like-minded community. In a world often shaped by judgment and fear, we strive to offer safety, love, and acceptance. While society may encourage us to hide our differences, my goal is to celebrate them. Our community is made up of people from diverse backgrounds, ages, cultures, and body types. A Queen’s Room is a place where healing can happen, where you can rediscover your inner light, and where, regardless of the challenges you face outside, you can find peace and strength.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Hi, I’m Kel Tran — the founder and owner of A Queen’s Room.
Dance has been a part of my life for over 20 years. I began with ballet as a child and gradually expanded my training to include hip hop, ballroom, and many other styles. But it was heels dancing that truly transformed me — not just as a dancer, but as a person.
I discovered heels during a very difficult chapter of my life. At 16, I was struggling with my identity, navigating the journey into womanhood, and wrestling with deep insecurities. One night after a hip hop class, I heard music floating from an upstairs studio and followed the sound. What I saw changed everything. A room full of women — diverse in shape, size, and background — dancing unapologetically in heels, exuding strength, confidence, and beauty. I had never seen anything like it. In that moment, something awakened in me.
Too young to officially take the class, I would sign up for hip hop and quietly sneak into the heels sessions, hiding in the back just to soak it all in.
I started teaching dance professionally years ago, but in 2021, I felt called to teach heels specifically. I had built the foundation — the training, the experience — and most importantly, the healing. Heels dancing helped me rediscover my feminine energy and taught me to stand tall in my truth. Now, I teach to help others do the same.
Through A Queen’s Room, I aim to address the pain of low self-esteem and self-doubt that so many people carry. My mission is simple: to create a safe space where students feel seen, empowered, and deeply believed in. And they give that same energy back to me — it’s a powerful, mutual exchange of growth and healing.
What sets A Queen’s Room apart is the intention behind everything we do. This isn’t just another dance class — it’s a sanctuary for transformation. A place where movement meets meaning.
What I’m most proud of is the atmosphere we’ve created. The sense of safety, the energy, the sparkle in someone’s eyes when they realize they are more than enough — that’s what fuels me. That’s why I do this.
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
One of the most important lessons I had to unlearn is that not everyone will support you — and that’s okay. Not everyone will understand your passion or see your purpose. But as long as you stay true to yourself and your mission, success will follow.
When I first began teaching heels dancing, I faced a great deal of judgment. For many, it was seen as “shameful.” This criticism weighed heavily on me, and I struggled to understand why something that had such a profound, positive impact on my life was being met with such negativity. I wanted to help others build the same confidence I had found, but others didn’t see it the way I did.
With time and growth, I realized that my calling was something uniquely mine — and that it didn’t require validation from anyone else. It was okay if others didn’t understand. What mattered most was that I was able to help others build the same confidence, self-love, and empowerment through heels dancing that I had discovered for myself.
Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
Authenticity has been the foundation of everything I’ve built. Staying true to myself and my mission has not only shaped my journey — it’s helped me build a reputation rooted in integrity and purpose.
In every class, I encourage students to embrace who they are and celebrate what makes them unique. I lead with vulnerability, because I believe it’s important to show that being yourself isn’t just okay — it’s powerful. It’s beautiful. And it’s enough.
