We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Kel The DJ a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Kel, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Let’s talk about social media – do you manage your own or do you have someone or a company that handles it for you? Why did you make the choice you did?
I manage my own social media. I went to school for business and marketing and I’m good at doing my own marketing.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
I started out playing music at parties. I always put together music and mixtapes since childhood. After I finished my MBA I went to DJ school. I do karaoke, trivia, MusicBingo, and silent headphone events. I do many different types of events from weddings to bar/bat mitzvahs to beach parties etc. I’m proud of myself for not boxing myself in and taking on challenges. I like to switch things up instead of doing the same events over and over again. That’s also what sets me apart from others. I want my followers and potential clients to know that I am great at my job and would love to work with you in the future.
What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?
The best source for new clients for me is word of mouth. Whenever I do events I usually get recommended by my client or people attending the event. It’s been amazing for me.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect about being a creative is doing something that I love and not having regrets about it. I love being a DJ. I love music and putting it together to make clients happy. It’s an amazing job and I look forward to my events.
