We recently connected with Keke The Great and have shared our conversation below.
Keke, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Did you always know you wanted to pursue a creative or artistic career? When did you first know?
The first time I knew I wanted to pursue a creative/artistic path professionally was when I was 5 years old. I was a bit of a loner and enjoyed entertaining myself first. I started writing poetry first because I needed a way to connect myself to myself through my writing. A few years later the goofball kicked in and I used to drive my mother crazy. She would always tell me to stop being so goofy but who knew that it would work out for me later in life.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
I started out in my bedroom as a kid creating characters and performing as them amongst myself. I started making skits in 2017 on Instagram and didn’t know what the heck I was doing as far as the editing. I finally got over the can I do this nerves and perform my first standup comedy show in 2021 and it was like I’ve done it before. Only I knew I only done it in my dreams but I made it become an reality. I have the opportunity to work with some of the greats such as comedians Michael Colyar and Gerald Kelly.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of being an artist or creative is the feedback from the audience that enjoys your craft. It’s uplifting and shows that it’s not all for nothing.
Do you think there is something that non-creatives might struggle to understand about your journey as a creative? Maybe you can shed some light?
Non creatives may struggle to understand my passion for being great at all I do even if I start out okay. I’ve worked plenty of corporate jobs but I wasn’t happy. What makes me happy is doing what I love with hopes of eventually taking care of my family with my dreams. Dreams become a reality if you live them with God involved.
