We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Keitza Garavito a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Keitza thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Risking taking is a huge part of most people’s story but too often society overlooks those risks and only focuses on where you are today. Can you talk to us about a risk you’ve taken – it could be a big risk or a small one – but walk us through the backstory.
For as long as I can remember, I’ve had this dream of opening my own small chiropractic studio. I envisioned a space where I could see my ideal patients in an environment that wasn’t rushed or clinical—something personal, safe, and inviting for families. I wanted to move away from the sterile, impersonal healthcare settings and create a place that felt like home, where people could connect, take care of themselves first, and feel empowered to take care of others.
While working at a high-volume chiropractic office in Virginia, I was pregnant and knew my husband’s Air Force orders would soon relocate us to New Mexico. I decided to take time off, focus on my pregnancy, and embrace the changes ahead. In November 2023, I gave birth to my son, Milán, through an unplanned C-section, and everything shifted. As life would have it, my husband’s orders changed, and we ended up staying in Virginia. At three months postpartum, I found myself in a whirlwind, but something clicked—I was ready to take the leap and pursue my dream.
I saw a small, charming building in Hilton Historic Village that seemed perfect. It was in a beautiful area surrounded by established small businesses, and though the idea scared me, something deep inside pushed me to go for it. I thought, “What if I fail?” But then I asked, “What if it flourishes into the space I’ve always dreamed of?” I jumped in.
Signing the lease was terrifying but exhilarating. I was sleep-deprived, in the middle of a rough postpartum trying to figure out how to be a mom, and full of anxiety, but also full of excitement, happiness and hope. Seeing patients walk into a space I’d built with my own hands (with the help of my husband, my mom and dad, and friends who I appreciate so much) and hearing my patients say it felt like a warm cozy home—that was the most rewarding feeling. If you’re feeling scared or anxious about doing something big, my advice is: Just do it. The worst thing that can happen is you’ll have to pivot. That’s better than staying stuck and not living your most authentic life. The world needs you—your uniqueness, your passion—so why not have fun and go for it?
Keitza, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?

We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
I feel like I came in with a great brand, thanks to my graphic designer. She built an amazing, unique, and fun brand that truly reflects who I am. Since I wanted my website, branding, and social media content to attract my ideal clients, we used bright colors, fun fonts, and casual captions, like I’m talking to a friend and explaining what I do. My focus was on attracting future friends and creating a community.
I make sure to show my face on social media, so people see me for who I am. I’m a Latina with a thick accent, and I’m always having fun and making sure you feel comfortable—take me as I am! I want people to know that what they see is what they get. My stories and posts always portray that authenticity. I believe it’s so important to show yourself just as you are because you don’t want to put something out there that doesn’t resonate with you or feel true to who you are.
Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
The most effective strategy for growing my clientele has definitely been maintaining a strong social media presence, especially on Instagram, and actively engaging in Facebook groups. Being part of community events also plays a huge role—just showing up and letting people know there’s a new business in town helps a lot! Once people start recognizing your face and seeing you frequently, they feel more comfortable approaching you and asking about your services. I try to be present at as many local events as possible, and it’s always fun because I get to meet other entrepreneurs who inspire me to keep innovating.
Another key factor is Google. Setting up your business profile and gathering reviews is crucial. Many of my clients find me through Google, and they often mention how they trusted me after reading my reviews and visiting my website. So, investing time in your online presence and getting those reviews makes a big difference!
