We were lucky to catch up with Keith Terrell recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Keith, thanks for joining us today. We’d love to hear about a project that you’ve worked on that’s meant a lot to you.
It’s hard to narrow down one since I’ve had a chance to work on so many great projects. One of the most recent was a campaign I directed for Beats Headphones and Apple’s non-profit, Propel, called, “Living in Legacy”. That was was special because I got a chance to work with HBCU students and hear how they were either continuing a legacy or beginning their own. One of the students, Mia Moore actually designed the pair of headphones that was featured in the spot. It was pretty inspiring to hear their stories and what they are accomplishing and getting to document it for the world to see.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I was born and raised in Los Angeles in what’s considered South L.A., but to us is still South Central. I studied film in College and knew I wanted to direct and along the way I naturally became a producer as well. I started at Viacom after I graduated and worked on four shows before getting into the music video world. Over the years I’ve worked on everything from Feature films, music videos, commercials and docu-series. I moved from LA to Atlanta in 2018 and started my production, Three24 Film Studios, LLC. What sets Three24 apart is we like to work with stories that make you feel something, something that you’ll remember. We help our clients produce standout content. I’m most proud of our show, Young, Black & Vegan where we are educating the community on the importance of wholistic health.
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
Spreading love and inspiration is the goal I create with. I want you to be entertained, but always walk away with something that will help you or somebody you know. One thing I’ve always loved about movies, good movies, is that they can change you and that’s what I hope to accomplish with my work.
Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
My biggest pivot so far was in 2018 when I moved from LA to Atlanta. I had got stuck working as a 1st AD (assistant director, basically I ran the set), and I wanted to focus on directing and producing. It was the best decision I’ve made career-wise. I moved with zero contacts and no jobs lined up. I basically had to start over building a new network. I still flew back to LA a lot that first year to still take AD gigs since that paid the bills, but after a year I was getting enough work to not have to leave Atlanta.
