We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Keith Swanier II. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Keith below.
Alright, Keith thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. When did you first know you wanted to pursue a creative/artistic path professionally?
My very 1st performance was at the JAZZ FEST which is 1 of New Orleans biggest events every year. To this point I had never performed before. I literally only had 3 songs recorded yet I had an hour on stage. Needless to say I performed my 3 songs along with a lot of other cover songs. And essentially I sold out of 300+ CD’s. And then to top it off, I was paid $1200. And at that point. I was hooked on the entertainment business.
Keith , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Well for starters I am an entertainer who has been labeled one i on c the most overall talented people in the city of New Orleans. From being an instagram influencer to acting, to music to sports to almost every field you can think of in the entertainment business I have had some level of success in it. I’ve been both underground as well as a bet music matters artist. I’ve played in both major movies as well as independent films. I’ve also written and starred in a few stage plays over the years. I’m one if those people who just like to have my hand in anything I can. And once I start something, I try to perfect it and become one of the best at it.
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
I’ve been homeless and no one knew except for my immediate family. I still made it to shows, performed , put out content and kept my career afloat all while sleeping in my truck in the park every night. I refuse to let my situation become my reality. And kept going to get to where I am now.
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
I had to realize that everyone can’t and won’t be able to do everything that I can do nor to the level that I can do it. And there are also on things that those people can do that I won’t be able to do. And I had to realize that when I was having a conversation with my daughter. She made me realize that what may be east for me, may Infact be hard for others. And then I had to apologize for the things I’ve done in the past to people simply because I’ve expected more from them that what could offer at the time. And it has honestly made me more humble because if it.
