We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Keith Gittens-Jones a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Keith, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. We’d love to hear about a project that you’ve worked on that’s meant a lot to you.
My current project that is very meaningful for me is the Phantom Electric Ghost Podcast.
Back in 2017 I was approached by a podcaster named “Rock Tunes” on the podcast app SpareMin. Rock Tunes had found a lot of my music as the Electronic Musician “Phantom Electric Ghost” on SoundCloud.
We discovered during the 1st audio podcast interview that we had a lot of things to talk about regarding music.
This lead to us doing a podcast together talking about music in general and Phantom Electric Ghost music in specific.
After several months of doing the podcast we stopped doing the podcast but we collaborated on an Album called the “Opposite of Space” with Rock Tune’s band “Lonnie Claire”.
This initial experience with podcasting lead me to develop the Phantom Electric Ghost Podcast in 2017 on the Sparemin App. In 2018 we moved the Phantom Electirc Ghost Podcast to Anchor.fm. Where we started interviiewing emerging, independent songwriters, and musicians from around the world.
Since 2018 we have interviewed over 300 musicians including Grammy award winning producers Kevin Stratton, and Billy Hume. As of 2023 we are at 912 episodes that you can find on Apple Podcasts. We are also on the following podcast platforms
Starting 2020 we began a Video Podcast that can be seen on SpotifyVideoPodcasts, YouTube, and Facebook. Since 2020 we have interviewed 100 guests – a very expansive and diverse set of folks.
In 2020 we began working with the Podcast matching app Podmatch.com from PodPros which has increased our number of Podcasts per month from 4 to over 16 per month

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
We have been a musician, keyboardist, electonic musician since age 17. In the late 1980s we got into electronic music with a Casio CZ-101 synth. Had a basement band with my brother and some high school friends.
Continued getting into electronic music at Bowdoin College, writing my own music using a Roland D-5 Synth, with a Korg Sequencer, and Tascam 4 Track Recorder.
Took a break from music after getting married. Traveled to Japan for work as an IT Project Manager in 2004-06
Got back into music in 2008 with a Roland Juno Gi synth and use of a Zoom R16 multi track recorder.
Created a SoundCloud account with Expansive Sound Experiments or sound paintings.
Keith better known by his stage name Phantom Electric Ghost or alter ego Josephine Electric, is a dedicated electronic musician and producer, hailing from Concord, New Hampshire. Phantom Electric ghost is a one-person band that has been his vehicle for expressing sounds and concepts that Jones calls Expansive Sound Experiments or sound paintings. Jones is a cancer survivor who overcame a level 3 Sarcoma in 1997.
PEG released many Expansive Experiments on Sound Cloud and rebranded with the official PEG account on SoundCloud in 2020 https://soundcloud.com/phantom_electric_ghost
2019, PEG released on his indie label Expansive Sound Experiments “The Flower That Blooms at Midnight in the Tomb” and synthwave and experimental album created almost entirely on the Teenage Engineering OP-Z multimedia synthesizer and sequencer.
Phantom Electric Ghost has collaborated with artists such as Chernobello.com (for the cover of the album II Infinitum in 2017) and ALT+CTRL+K (Kiri Margaros) on the same project. Deeply influenced by progressive rockers such as Emerson Lake and Palmer, Genesis, and YES; PEG is also rooted in New Romantic (New Wave), Jazz(Sun Ra), and Funk (Prince, Parliament Funkadelic, and Sly and Family Stone). This diverse mix of genres is what makes up Expansive Sound and what make Phantom Electric Ghost a unique musical endeavor.
We have many albums on all streaming platforms as Phantom Electric Ghost
Latest Albums can be found on Spotify, Apple, Tidal, Amazon, YouTube Music
How can we best help foster a strong, supportive environment for artists and creatives?
I believe that listeners can support musicans by subscribing, liking, playlisting and favoriting their favorite artists.
This does not cost money it only cost a little time and is very important to allowing artists to break through
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
When I was 27 I was diagnosed with a Level 3 Sarcoma. I was able to survive the Cancer and it was a crucible moment in my life. I gained confidence and became less fearful.
Due to being less fearful. I got married and my family lived in Tokyo from 2004-06 as result of an IT Project Managment position I had
I would not have been brave enough to make that move pre cancer
I also believe I would not have created Phantom Electric Ghost the music project or Podcast if I had not survived Cancer
