We were lucky to catch up with Keith Fountain recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Keith thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Let’s jump to the end – what do you want to be remembered for?
I’m hoping to leave a legacy of involvement in the protection of conservation lands in Florida with a value of more than $1 billion and many satisfied clients that believe they protected their lands in the manner most appropriate for their personal or business circumstances. After I’m gone, I hope people recognize that I was a significant “player” in the protection of Florida’s natural resources.
Keith, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I’ve always believed my love of wildlife and hiking/backpacking, combined with time during my childhood spent on my grandmother’s farm, led me to a career in conservation. I’m one of the few, if not only attorney in Florida whose practice is dedicated 100% to conservation real estate transactions.
I’m proud of my high level of expertise, the respect I earned from others, and my extensive business relationships throughout the state. In many ways I feel my track record of accomplishment is unparalleled.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
I don’t know if it’s resilience or persistence, but I have two stories of working to protect important conservation lands where it appeared the opportunity to conserve the property was gone, only to reappear – one within a few years and the other about 14 years later.
What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?
Word of mouth. I think I have impressed so many landowners and other professionals around the state with my knowledge and results that the vast majority of clients flow in as recommendations.
