Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Keith Carlock. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Keith, thanks for joining us today. What’s been the most meaningful project you’ve worked on?
It is still a work in progress. I call it a Photographic Portal Model. It has, on a low-tech photographic level, what I believe are the three basic qualities of an artificial portal:exterior cloaking, interior holodeck like photographic display and an interior photographic hologram display within the photographic holodeck. All of these three attributes can be translated into a high-tech application. I discovered the geometric inverse relationship between invisibility and holodecks back in 1992. It has taken me over 30 years later to realize this dream. I have a filmmaker friend in Los Angeles who is morphing my pictures for me (a required step in creating the photographic cloak. The portal model itself is a multi-image box which makes use of all 6 faces, 12 edges and 8 corners to create a nearly seamless 26-viewing angles photographic portal, inside and out. And it requires 54 images of the environment it rests in, inside and out, for a total of 108 images altogether to be morphed into distorted perspectives that will right themselves when placed at the correct angle-view on the box or cube. The box itself is tilted on its corner for observers to see more of the transforming imagery as one moves around outside the portal or turn around within the portal. The price for blowing the images up into poster-sized for all the panels, I calculated” would cost cost around $1,620 for all 108 picture images at an estimsgted $15 each, to be blown up into poster-size. I’m not selling anything at all. My hope is to give my ideas away to anyone who would like to build their own. Or profit from it. I’m only seeking the hard-earned recognition that has always eluded me in my own hometown. Sometimes, recognition can be more valuable than most amounts of money. If the readership only knew how passionate I am about this project and how sure I am as to where my ideas will lead: high-tech Televisual Portals and I don’t even limit my imagination to mere high-tech. I hypothesize Cosmic Portals some day. In fact, there is a spectrum of portal technologies just waiting to be shared with the world. And I’m not charging a dime.
Keith, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I’m kind of a freak of nature. I’m not really sure what inspired me. But anyone who knows me, knows about my invisibility/ holodeck theories and my quest to have considered my idea of an amended Invisible/Holographic Principle based on my modest approaches to the three qualities of a portal, cloaking, holodecks and holograms at the intersection of visual reality. A duality within a duality. My answer to what I consider an incomplete Holographic Principle in theoretical physics.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
I want to proliferate my ideas of portal technologies to the world. A full-sized Photographic Portal in everyone’s backyard. Enjoyed by adults as well as children. And I know Televisual Portals (still a concept) is right around the corner. I want my portal knowledge free for public use, to increase competition and therefore, bring down the price to afford one. The Model A of Portals for everybody!
What can society do to ensure an environment that’s helpful to artists and creatives?
Everyone, no matter how far out their ideas are, should at least be given the opportunity to explain themselves in their own local press. I’ve never been given hometown recognition in all the 30+ years that I have had my ideas and theories, so this interview means so much to me!😁
