We were lucky to catch up with Keith C recently and have shared our conversation below.
Keith, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Earning a full time living from one’s creative career can be incredibly difficult. Have you been able to do so and if so, can you share some of the key parts of your journey and any important advice or lessons that might help creatives who haven’t been able to yet?
Earning income to support my way of life has been a challenge worth every moment. It wasn’t always like this though. In the beginning for about 3-4 years, I worked heavily on quantity and learning from others as well as educating myself to be sure this is truly my life purpose.
As time went on, I’ve been blessed to encounter teachings from motivational speakers, books and networking events with like minded leaders. These tools guided me to overstand how necessary art is in all forms, thus molding my mind and absorbing each experience.
At first it was about exploring the facets of entertainment, then I needed to hold myself to a higher standard as compensation was to be rendered. Pay wasn’t just given, I began to audition myself only for paid work as my portfolio began to speak for itself.
Currently with 10 years of experience, there are very few unpaid assignments that I’ll invest in. Speed doesn’t learn you the lessons you receive while taking your time to produce QUALITY work, that’s where goals become accomplished.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
For those who are unfamiliar, ready thy self!
I am Keith C, the coach, director, fashion model, actor and much more humbly.
Currently you may come across my work on DuRag for Locs, Google Ads, Getty Images for Fashion Week, Restaurant Commercial, Hair Care Products and a slew of others outlets.
This journey began after being told a model of my height wouldn’t go far if not 6″foot. Before that, I wrote music, composed instrumentals, formed a guy group, worked with artist in genres such as gospel, pop, rnb, hip-hop and some rock.
Now, I’m choreographing dances for artist on tour, facilitating my own model master classes, acting in films listed on amazon,
creative director for a fashion brand, co-host of a talk show and now host of a youth learning show called doodlehatch.
What’s sets me apart is the power and willingness to deliver and uphold self discipline at all times. To lead by example really, provide solutions towards problem solving. While doing so to give back to my community.
Above were some of the services I provide as an entertainer.

Is there something you think non-creatives will struggle to understand about your journey as a creative? Maybe you can provide some insight – you never know who might benefit from the enlightenment.
Non-creative may not overstand the effort, drive and ambition wholly. As a creative, we’re the CEO’s of our day to day daily endeavors. Just as some report to a 9-5 to appease the work for on a structed base. We must create the structure and abid my it for success.
As a creative we must do what’s hard now, then enjoy our fruit later. It doesn’t become easier because a true creative will always hunger to create in one way or another.

We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
Yes,
Years a theater director named Jason auditioned me for a role but I didn’t really believe I was ready or capable of remembering lines, singing on key, dancing and acting at the same time! This was only at rehearsals yet he believed in me and didn’t allow me to give up. My spirit felt replenished to know someone wants the best for their production which means they want only the best to be incorporated.
